ROE V WADE: The Science, Yes Science, of Pain in the Womb

On October 17, 2020, I wrote what would be my second to last article for The Hayride, a criticism of Joe Biden and his hypocrisy when it came to the idea of science, masks, and abortion. Fast forward a year and a half later and my happy May-the-Fourth-be-with-me return to the keyboard, and I find myself revisiting that article in light of the current happenings with the Supreme Court and Roe v Wade.

As a sort of soft return to the website, I am publishing this ageless article that hopefully will add to the conversation. Certainly, the moral and constitutional concerns are substantial in this national and human story, but I would like to gently remind everyone of another facet here.

Science.

It is a word and a platitude we had forced down our throats for many a monthโ€“and may very well have it forced again as the midterms loom. โ€œScienceโ€ was the god the Left said we were to bow down to, and anyone who didnโ€™t do their bidding was labelled a merciless, tyrannical fascist not quite in touch enough with a love of neighbor.

Science. Love. Brotherhood. Unity. It all matters so much to the Left.

But only when it fits their narrative, of course.

Here is the article in full from that 17th day of October, mere weeks before the 2020 Presidential Election, an article that is just as relevant now as it was then:

~

Joe Biden has repeatedly preached to the American people to listen to the scientists when it comes to the wearing of masks.

Of course this means, for Joe, only the scientists that follow a certain narrative.

This neurosurgeon says something else.

This latest report from the sometimes-confusing CDC says this.

Even the โ€œgoodโ€ Dr Fauci has worn flip-flops on the mask issue.

All year, so many things to sift throughโ€“so much in the name of science.

โ€œWe need to take the science of fighting this disease seriously if weโ€™re going to save lives and above all the news is a reminder that we, as a nation, need to do better in dealing with this pandemic,โ€ Biden said.

โ€œWe can save 100,000 lives in the next 100 days if everyone wears a mask in public. So be patriotic. Itโ€™s not about being a tough guy, itโ€™s about doing your part.โ€

Science. Joe loves science. And preaching from his imaginary pulpit.

Interestingly, in a March article from LifeNews, these scientists confirmed that unborn babies feel excruciating pain in the womb during an abortion.

The title of a new academic paper says it all: โ€œReconsidering fetal pain,โ€ by two well-credentialed medical professionals, Stuart Derbyshire and John C. Bockmann.

The article is an honest, objective review of the scientific literature as it relates to the question of whether and when a child still in the womb can experience pain. Looking at the scientific evidence again with unbiased eyes, the authorsโ€™ answer was โ€œyes,โ€ perhaps as early as 12 weeks, and certainly after 18 weeks.

Derbyshire and Bockmann also reviewed the evidence for experiencing pain as it relates to any need for the cortex, or any psychological processes to โ€œinterpretโ€ the pain signal. Their objective, balanced reading of the evidence pointed to pain experience without the need for the cortex (similar to the undisputed pain experienced by animals), mediated by other neural structures.

The literature on the science of fetal pain has indeed become extensive. But it is not just science, but also reason that brings this new recognition of the reality of fetal pain.

Biden, who once said he was a โ€œpro-life Democrat,โ€ affirmed his personal opposition to abortion as recently as the 2012 presidential election. However, he explained further that he had no reason to prevent a woman from exercising her reproductive rights and choice to kill the child in her womb.

Itโ€™s the old โ€œI donโ€™t personally believe in abortion but you can abort your baby if you want toโ€ stance.

This is what we call pro-choice, Joe.

Joe, of course, must cater to his Left-wing commanders. He had this to say earlier this year:

โ€œWomenโ€™s health care rights have been under attack as states across the country have passed extreme laws restricting womenโ€™s constitutional right to choice under any circumstance,โ€ Biden said. โ€œToday the U.S. Supreme Court reaffirmed that states cannot put in place laws that unduly burden a womanโ€™s right to make her own health care decision with her doctor.โ€

Joe Biden is a puppet of the Left and will do whatever their bidding is like a wet puppy dog come in from the storm. His statements on โ€œwomenโ€™s rightsโ€ clearly follow politics and, in his mind, constitutional thinking. But the great big elephant in the room when Joe starts preaching science concerning masks is that this same argument from the Left never applies to the most vulnerable in our societyโ€”the unborn baby that is torn to shreds in the womb, what should beย theย safest place for life to live.

May everyone named directly or referenced indirectly ask forgiveness and do penance for their sins against America and God. I fight this information war in the spirit of justice and love for the innocent, but I have been reminded of the need for mercy and prayers for our enemies. I am a sinner in need of redemption as well after all, for my sins are many. In the words of Jesus Christ himself, Lord forgive us all, for we know not what we do.
