Bringing Back American Greatness
Back in July, I attended Turning Point USA’s 2022 Student Action Summit conference. The conference’s keynote speaker was none other than the 45th President of the United States—President Donald Trump. In his speech, President Trump mentioned an idea that has stuck with me for the past two months: American Greatness.
In his speech, Trump talked about how “we don’t talk about Greatness anymore” as a country. As a consequence, I have meditated on the idea of “American Greatness” in the wake of two years under the Joe Biden presidency.
National excellence has become a mere afterthought in the minds of most Americans these days. Coming off the ruinous COVID-19 lockdowns, so many issues are plaguing the American people—from mass immigration to high inflation and rampant crime to “woke” censorship/propaganda. The list goes on and on.
In my frequent conservations with members of the Baby Boomer and Gen X generations, I get the sense that America is a shadow of what it once was. The safe, booming United States of the post-World War II era is no more than a memory for most Americans.
America no longer looks “great.” Just look at America’s hollowed-out industrial towns, America’s crumbling infrastructure, and America’s wide-open Southern border. The American nation appears stagnant economically, culturally, and spiritually.
In fact, the American Dream appeared dead to many people for decades.
But then, a brash businessman named Donald Trump won the 2016 Presidential election on a nationalist, “America First” message. He wanted to bring back American jobs, close the Southern border, and end America’s constant wars in the Middle East. He battled the entrenched political establishment in both parties and the Fake News mainstream media.
Going into 2016, President Trump knew that the American dream was dead, but he knew that the opportunity to fix America still remained. Unfortunately, President Trump’s quest to make “Make America Great Again” ended abruptly with the COVID-19 lockdowns and with two dreadful years under the Joe Biden administration.
In the current time, American decline appears inevitable in the wake of the disastrous Joe Biden presidency. Currently, a vast majority of Americans believe the country is heading in the wrong direction—and for good reason.
The poor direction of the country is why Trump’s message of “American Greatness” still resonates with tens of millions of American voters. In the seven years since his initial Presidential run, Trump’s iconic slogan of “Make America Great Again” has inspired countless patriots to believe that we will restore our nation to its former glory.
Personally, I entered the political arena in 2020 because of President Trump, and I directly know scores of other young conservatives who underwent a similar experience. So, I am forever grateful for President Trump’s message of “American Greatness” and its impact on my life.
Going into the 2022 midterm elections, I believe it is worth contemplating Trump’s message of “American Greatness” before we cast our votes.
We need to think long and hard about electing candidates who believe in American Greatness; we need to think long and hard about what we can each do personally to bring back American Greatness into the national consciousness.
A recent video from President Trump’s Truth Social platform underscores this whole idea of “American Greatness”. President Trump’s team posted this campaign-esque video in August right after the FBI’s raid of his Mar-a-lago residence.
Definitely check out President Trump’s video. I still get chills every time I rewatch it:
While the video did not directly announce President Trump’s probable Presidential campaign for 2024, it does provide a strong indicator that he intends on running in 2024.
Let’s all hope that President Trump runs again for President in 2024 because the nation needs him now more than ever. In other words, Trump is the kind of hero we need but don’t deserve.
Let’s starting to talking about American Greatness once again! Let’s Make America Great Again!
