DeSantis Wins Faceoff With NHL Over Woke Discrimination
The NHL skated into Florida and tried to slip one past the state’s goalie. Fortunately, Governor DeSantis blocked the shot and sent the NHL to the penalty box.
Hockey cliches aside, the NHL must have thought that they were going to California. They couldn’t seriously have thought that DeSantis was going to allow such blatant wokeness to be exploited in his state.
The NHL All Star Game will be played in South Florida on February 4th at FLA Live Arena, the home of the Florida Panthers. As part of the weekend of “festivities” the NHL is holding an event that they call “Pathway To Hockey Summit.”
On their LinkedIn account the NHL Described the event like this:
“Participants must be 18 years of age or older, based in the U.S., and identify as female, Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and/or a person with a disability. Veterans are also welcome and encouraged to attend.”
Notice any group that isn’t included? DeSantis did, and through his Press Secretary Brian Griffin he released the following statement condemning the event.
“Discrimination of any sort is not welcome in the state of Florida, and we do not abide by the woke notion that discrimination should be overlooked if applied in a politically popular manner or against a politically unpopular demographic. We are fighting all discrimination in our schools and our workplaces, and we will fight it in publicly accessible places of meeting or activity. The NHL should immediately remove and denounce the discriminatory prohibitions it has imposed on attendance to the 2023 Pathway to Hockey Summit.”
The league obviously got the message and removed the post Friday night. They then released a statement that said:
“The original wording of the LinkedIn post associated with the event was not accurate.”
An NHL spokesperson clarified it further saying:
“The Pathway to Hockey Summit is an informational and networking event designed to encourage all individuals to consider a career in our game and in particular, alert those who might not be familiar with hockey to the opportunities it offers.”
It’s nice that the NHL acknowledged that there may be white males that aren’t familiar with all of the opportunities the league has to offer, but it’s a disgrace that they had to be shamed into including them.
The league was obviously trying to appeal to the woke left, with total disregard for anything else.
The promotion suggests that the NHL has plans to expand the project to other cities, including Anaheim, Chicago, Nashville, New York, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, San Jose, Seattle, Sunrise/Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Washington, D.C.
I’m willing to bet that at any location outside of the state of Florida, the league reverts back to their disgusting discriminatory ways.
If they do, fans need to skate away.
