Woke Leftists Join with Other Authoritarian Regimes in Prosecuting Political Opponents

In a brazen attempt to silence America First’s highest-profile leader, a woke, leftist district attorney apparently plans to have President Donald J. Trump arrested on charges of falsifying business records and violating campaign finance laws. The accusations relate to an alleged hush money payoff made to former porn actress Stephanie Clifford (Stormy Daniels).

It is possible that by the time you read this, Trump will already have been arraigned.

The absurdity of the case against President Trump is laughably obvious. The prosecution’s key witness is Michael Cohen, Trump’s former attorney who was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to eight counts of tax evasion and campaign finance violations. Cohen’s testimony against Trump has been completely discredited by his own former legal advisor, Bob Costello.

“There can be no doubt in anyone’s mind that Michael Cohen has great difficulty telling the truth,” Costello said. “He is, after all a convicted perjurer, and our track record with Mr. Cohen convinced us that he was a serial liar.”

The Daniels case has been rejected multiple times by state, local and federal prosecutors, but under pressure from the political left, Trump-hating Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has apparently decided to pursue the weak case against the president. To the delight of the left, Bragg is an avowed woke leftist who refuses to prosecute subway fare evasion, resisting arrest and trespassing, but he proposed a jail avoidance policy for some categories of robbery and gun crimes. This is the guy who proudly proclaimed he helped sue Trump more than 100 times during his presidency. As of now, we know Bragg is backed by leftist oligarch George Soros, whose PAC, Color of Change, gave Bragg a million-dollar campaign contribution.

And now it’s time for Bragg to pay up…

If Trump is indeed charged with criminal conduct, those responsible will join an exclusive club of fellow authoritarians who will not tolerate dissent. As woke leftists take another step toward the abyss, it’s worth looking at some of their role models who used similar tactics to silence their political opponents.

Vladimir Putin-Russia

As much as the left uses Putin as their fall guy, I imagine there is a lot in his operating procedure they find appealing. Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a leading Putin critic and “election denier,” spent a decade in a gulag after being convicted on unsubstantiated charges of tax evasion, embezzlement and money laundering. Khordorkovsky now lives in exile in London.

Putin’s critics also have an odd way of dying. In 2006, Putin opponent Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned to death. Boris Nemtsov, a political reformist, was shot dead. Fortunately, the left in our country has not resorted to such extreme tactics, but on the other hand, those who remember the Vince Foster suicide might disagree.

Volodymyr Zelensky-Ukraine

Since he came to power in a dubious election resulting from the U.S. backed coup that overthrew ex-Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych, Zelensky has been effective in silencing the opposition. While making dramatic demands to the U.S. government for more money and weapons to “save democracy,” Zelensky has jailed Ukraine’s key opposition leader, Viktor Medvedchuk, on charges of treason. To ensure his opponents won’t have an opportunity to spread their “falsehoods,” Zelensky also banned three TV channels.

Nicolas Maduro-Venezuela

Leftists in the U.S. admire Maduro. He’s thoroughly destroyed a thriving capitalist system, which has given Venezuela the dubious distinction of being named the most “miserable” country on the planet. Calculating the effect of inflation, unemployment, interest rates and GDP per inhabitant, Venezuela edged out Zimbabwe as the worst place in the world to live. Yet, leftists in America love the concept of shared misery—as long as they’re excluded—so it should be no surprise that they often defend Maduro and shift the blame for Venezuela’s woes elsewhere.

For his part, Maduro wears the role of dictator well. Among the jailed opposition leaders was Leopoldo Lopez, sentenced to 14 years in jail on a fabricated charge of “inciting violence.” Apparently, U.S. leftists were paying attention because they too have expended great resources trying to gin up ways to charge Trump with “inciting violence” related to the January 6,2021 protests at the Capitol.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei-Iran

Iran’s presidential elections are obviously rigged, but the government claims they are the fairest in the world and demands proof of tampering.

Good luck with that.

In 2009, following protests based on charges of vote fixing that benefitted incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had two of the opposition candidates jailed, including the former chairman of the parliament and the former prime minister. Iran is a closed society, so it’s unclear exactly how many opposition leaders have been jailed or killed since the 1979 revolution.

Leftist Totalitarians in America are Watching and Learning

Suppression of free speech, selective prosecution, financial ruination, canceling, uneven enforcement of tax laws and ambiguous process crimes are tactics woke leftists in American have used for the past decade to silence their opposition. Yet, even with that level of intimidation, candidates who champion the rights of the people continue to emerge, and it infuriates the left. They are committed to eliminating any opposition to their goal of authoritarian control, no matter the cost. If that means criminally prosecuting a former president on fabricated charges, so be it.

If psychotic leftists are successful in denying Trump the opportunity to represent the Republican party in November 2024, then all is lost in America. These autocratic zealots cannot be allowed to choose our candidates for us. Above all else, Trump has pulled the curtain back from Oz and revealed the corrupt, fetid Deep State system that gave us John McCain, Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush. Woke leftists can no longer hide in the shadows, and they know it, so they are now brazenly moving in the daylight among us, imposing their will through strong-arm tactics they borrowed from other authoritarian regimes.

This is a pivotal point in American history and a line in the sand. We can no longer afford to be weak-kneed cosmopolitans sitting in our living rooms hoping it will all go away.

If Trump is arrested, our response must be loud and persistent, and the left must learn we will not stand for these despotic tactics in our country.
