Sweden Says There Is No Evidence Children Benefit From Sex Change Treatments
Some American doctors are rushing to embrace child genital mutilation surgeries and hormone treatments for children suffering from gender dysphoria. Meanwhile, Sweden is taking a different approach.
The Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment in Social Services has released a review that states that hormone treatment should only be administered as a part of clinical trials. In other words, there is no credible evidence that hormone treatment and child genital mutilation are appropriate treatments for gender dysphoria in teens.
This is not the first study that has come to this same conclusion. In 2021, a study commissioned by NHS England reported similar results.

The evidence for using puberty blocking drugs to treat young people struggling with their gender identity is “very low”, an official review has found.
The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) said existing studies of the drugs were small and “subject to bias and confounding”.
The assessment of the evidence into the drugs was commissioned by NHS England.
It is part of a review into gender identity services for children and young people.

The NICE evidence review looked at what impact puberty blockers had on gender dysphoria, mental health – such as depression, anger and anxiety – and quality of life.
NICE, which provides national guidance and advice to improve health and social care, said: “The quality of evidence for these outcomes was assessed as very low certainty.”
The review sought to find out how treatment with GnRH analogues compared in terms of clinical effectiveness with other interventions that may be offered to young people with gender dysphoria.
These include psychological support, social transitioning to the desired gender – where a young person will identify as another gender by perhaps changing their pronouns and clothing, but does not take medication – or no intervention at all.
A common problem is that the studies that have been conducted in this topic have been highly flawed. There are over 10,000 papers on this subject but only 24 that met the criteria of being, at most, seriously biased according to HotAirās David Strom. In other words, none of these papers would be acceptable to use if this was any other topic.
But these highly flawed papers are used by American doctors and activists to encourage children to sterilize and mutilate themselves in the name of āgender affirming care.ā Why? Because these types of āhealthcareā are profitable for the American healthcare industry. It also makes far-left activists happy.
The United States is becoming more and more of an outlier on this topic. Red state governments need to continue to act to ban this type of āhealthcareā for children.
