Ron DeSantis Needs To Stop Being Weird

I support Ron DeSantis because I desire someone who pushes conservative policy without Donald Trump’s problems.

But DeSantis has lost support since he entered the presidential race. Even worse for DeSantis, the other candidates are catching up with him.

DeSantis’s biggest problem is he has abandoned the things that made him a popular governor of Florida. He has been way “too online” and pushes issues that few Republican voters care about. He has tried to “outTrump Trump” and that doesn’t work, instead turning off the voters open to a Trump alternative.

It’s a bad idea to court the “way too online” vote because they’re already supporting Trump. They are not convincible voters and produce pro-Trump videos and content.

It’s also not a good idea for staffers to retweet neo-Nazi videos supporting DeSantis. If there is one thing American voters hate it is Nazis. I can guarantee that candidates who support fascism will not win any election.

What should DeSantis do? He should champion his record in Florida. He not only passed school choice, but he also signed a record teacher pay raise. He also signed a bill to pay $5,000 to recruit cops to move to Florida. Finally, he pushed to make diapers and other baby essentials tax-free. This is the tip of the iceberg for a record that benefited average Floridians. These are things DeSantis should be talking about on a daily basis, not Bud Light.

First, DeSantis needs an economic message. He needs to address important issues to Republican voters such as inflation, jobs, and trade. What does DeSantis support on those issues? He has given talking points-oriented answers on those issues, but he needs to move further.

DeSantis’s economic message needs to appeal to average working-class Americans. What I don’t want to see is a tax plan that benefits Bill Gates, George Soros, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg. Leftist billionaires don’t need tax cuts. Instead, DeSantis should come out with a tax plan based on helping working-class Americans.

Also, for the love of God, don’t talk about cutting entitlements. DeSantis should promise to preserve them for current and soon-to-be recipients.

Finally, this advice might be unpopular with our readers. DeSantis needs to take the fight to Trump. Trump and his hardcore supporters are already saying vicious things about DeSantis. DeSantis needs to answer these attacks and respond with attacks of his own. He doesn’t have to call Trump names but he should attack Trump’s record and call him out. If DeSantis wins, it will be because Republican voters think he can govern better than Trump.

DeSantis’s campaign has stumbled in its first couple of months but he can turn it around. He needs to stop being weird and promote issues normal voters care about.
