Watch The Final Trailer For Dune Part 2 Here!

We’re showing you this for a couple of reasons.

Beyond the obvious, which is that this is likely going to be the biggest box office hit of the year. The first of Denis Villenueve’s Dune series was a massive, massive movie and basically everybody is expecting this will be right up to that standard.

And what’s in the three trailers they’ve now released for Part 2, the cinematography and feel to the film, which made the first one so amazing, is still there. That first Dune a couple of years ago was probably the most beautiful movie I’ve ever seen. This looks like it.

But the other reason for this is that, if you weren’t already aware, Dune is possibly the most conservative film franchise going right now. Mostly because it hews pretty closely to the source material, and the original Dune books authored by Frank Hebert beginning in the 1960’s were very much the products of a conservative mindset. Herbert was, in fact, a speechwriter for Richard Nixon, and the Dune story is largely an allegory for global politics of the Cold War – with House Atreides as the Western countries who were largely in retreat in the 1960’s and House Harkkonen as the ruthless and ascendant USSR, with the Fremen of Planet Arrakis the Arab world, and the “spice” in the books being a stand-in for the oil in the desert.

Herbert’s worldview was that the free and moral folks had an obligation to embrace some level of savagery when faced with abject evil. He also was highly suspicious of power and its ill effects on those who wield it. That comes off quite clearly in Villenueve’s telling of the story on the silver screen. Brilliantly so. It seems as though this is a major theme in the second episode due out in November.

Anyway, this is the movie we’re waiting on. Here’s the final trailer…
