All Eyes on Louisiana: the Coming Conservative Bastion

The Conservative movement has suffered some obvious setbacks in recent elections. This fall, the State of Ohio enshrined abortion in its State Constitution, Kentucky’s incumbent Democrat Governor won his re-election, and Democrats regained Virginia’s State House. Just a year ago, Congressional Republicans also heavily underperformed in the 2022 Midterm elections—gaining only a slight majority in the House of Representatives.

Despite some of these disappointing results for the Conservative base, one state bucked the trend of Conservative losses over the past year. That state is my home state: Louisiana.

For those who aren’t familiar, Louisiana is a Deep Red State with a Democrat governor. Louisiana’s current Governor John Bel Edwards has led the state since his initial Gubernatorial victory back in 2015. After years of languishing under John Bel Edward’s ineffective leadership, Louisiana finally experienced a real victory.

Last month, Trump-endorsed candidate and current Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry scored an outright victory in the state’s competitive “jungle primary”. Facing over a dozen candidates in his election, Jeff Landry gained over 51% of the vote and avoided heading to a run-off election.

Governor-elect Landry is poised to become the most Conservative Governor in America when one looks at his track record. As Louisiana’s Attorney General, Jeff Landry helped end New Orleans’s draconian COVID-19 lockdowns, successfully sued the Biden administration over its unconstitutional social media censorship, enforced Louisiana’s pro-life laws, and worked to end the Federal Government’s consent decree in the New Orleans police department

Louisiana’s future looks quite bright with Jeff Landry at the helm. The good news is that Governor-elect Landy has some back-up in the Louisiana State Government. Louisiana Republicans now control super-majorities in both State Houses and control every single statewide office following last Saturday’s run-off elections.

More notably, solid Conservative statewide candidates John Fleming and Liz Murrill defeated their Democrat opponents by thirty percentage points in their respective elections.

John Fleming is a former US Congressman, founder of the House Freedom Caucus, and former Trump administration official. Fleming is set to become Louisiana’s next Treasurer in January following his victory.

Liz Murrill serves as Louisiana’s current Solicitor General—which is second-in-command post under Attorney General Jeff Landry. Prior to running for Attorney General, Murrill championed Conservative values by fighting against COVID-era vaccine mandates and defending Louisiana’s pro-life laws after last year’s Dobbs vs. Jackson court case. With her landslide victory in last week’s Attorney General election, Murrill is positioned to continue Jeff Landry’s work as a Conservative champion for Louisiana citizens.

Louisiana offers some of the best Conservative elected officials in any State government. Louisiana’s rapid shift to the right-wing is truly remarkable and presents Conservatives with a vision for what a truly conservative, “America First” state government can look like. In the coming months and years, I definitely recommend that all “America First” patriots pay attention to Louisiana and Conservative victories taking place in my home state!
