Why are Asylum Seekers Fleeing from Democracies?
Like everything else with the U.S. federal government, what should be simple and clear is usually confusing and inexplicably difficult to understand.
That is the perfect description of the Biden Administrationโs policy at the southern border. The deeper you sink into the rabbit hole, the more confused you become.
Differentiating Asylum Seekers and Refugees
The right of a foreign national to seek asylum in the United States was established in both the 1951 International Refugee Convention and the 1980 Refugee Act, signed by President Jimmy Carter in 1980.
Ever notice how these horrible Democrat presidents are gifts that keep on giving decades after theyโre out of office?
But I digressโฆ
From Amnesty International:
โA refugee is a person who has fled their own country because they are at risk of serious human rights violations and persecution there. The risks to their safety and life were so great that they felt they had no choice but to leave and seek safety outside their country because their own government cannot or will not protect them from those dangers. Refugees have a right to international protection.
โAn asylum seeker is a person who has left their country and is seeking protection from persecution and serious human rights violations in another country, but who hasnโt yet been legally recognized as a refugee and is waiting to receive a decision on their asylum claim. Seeking asylum is a human right. This means everyone should be allowed to enter another country to seek asylum.โ
Apparently, refugee status is what asylum seekers are pursuing. It gives them the right to remain in the U.S. indefinitely, receive generous benefits, travel in and out of the country with impunity, and puts them on the track to citizenship.
The Asylum Scam
It is generally agreed that over 10 million illegal aliens have entered the United States since Joe Biden took office. However, in that same period, the U.S. has granted refugee status to less than 100,000 people.
So, what gives?
While there is a process that involves applying for asylum in their country of origin, most aliens donโt want to wait, so they cross the border illegally, surrendering themselves to border patrol agents on arrival. At that point, the border patrol will process them before they are released. Once they settle in an area, the aliens are instructed to inform the closest Immigration and Customs Enforcement office of their presence.
Eventually, they are supposed to receive a court date. However, the system is so overwhelmed, and donโt think for a moment the aliens donโt know this, hearing dates are currently being assigned in 2035. No doubt theyโll all show up for their court date 12 years from now, right?
The hearing dates themselves are a joke. In July 2023, an overwhelmed border patrol released 50,000 illegal aliens into the U.S. with instructions they should immediately contact the nearest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office for additional processing once they were settled. In total, 6,700 of them actually showed up.
Finally, instead of re-instituting Trumpโs policies that stopped the flood of immigrants at Mexicoโs southern border, the Biden administration allowed over a million aliens into the country under an archaic parole law, which essentially allows them to stay in the U.S. for at least two years.
Currently, there are over 1.6 million asylum cases pending in United States immigration courts. That number is so overwhelming it is obvious to any unbiased observer that the vast majority of those cases will never be adjudicated.
Why are Asylum Seekers Fleeing Democracies?
One of the biggest underlying questions that is rarely discussed is where are the โasylum seekersโ coming from, and why are they leaving their own countries? According to the LA Times, the top six countries of alien origin in 2023 were:
Honduras
Guatemala
Ecuador
Columbia
Haiti
Venezuela
All the countries on the list, except Venezuela and Haiti, operate under some legitimate form of democracy, so it begs the question: What kind of persecution are these people fleeing from? Curiously, the Biden administration implemented measures to block Haitians and Venezuelans at the border, the two countries of the top six that are actually run by authoritarian dictators.
Go figure.
Another aspect of these six countries that is often ignored is the money they receive from the U.S. Here are the latest foreign aid figures for 2023:
Honduras: $151 million
Guatemala: $187 million
Ecuador: $50 million
Columbia: $441 million
Haiti: $331 million
Venezuela: $205 million
What exactly did the U.S. receive back from these investments besides dependents, criminals, drug dealers and people from mental institutions? Where is this money being spent, and why isnโt it improving the lives of the indigenous people? The U.S. has no issue with pressuring Israel to stand down in their fight against Hamas, but where is the pressure on the governments of these countries sending us millions of their own citizens illegally?
The Obvious Intent of the Invasion
The current border crisis sets up a situation where there are only two possible solutions:
A: Deportation
B: Amnesty
Which of those two choices would you bet the federal government will embrace?
Biden and his cronies have succeeded in deliberately setting up a crisis scenario that is untenable. The 30 million illegal aliens currently living in our country created a shadow society. We know that most of the million pending asylum cases will never be heard. The only thing both sides of the aisle agree on is that the status quo is unsustainable.
Allowing illegal aliens unfettered access to U.S. soil was premeditated, so itโs easy to figure out whatโs coming next. For the balance of 2024, you will not hear much about the border in the leftist media, except for occasional stories touting the success of the Biden administration in reducing the number of border crossings. In fact, this process has already begun. These stories will be part of the โgood news Joeโ effort that will temporarily result in lower inflation, lower gas prices and lower interest rates throughout 2024, at least until the election is over.
However, if Biden wins again, you should expect a new โgang of eightโ to emerge in the Senate, claiming that Bidenโs victory is a mandate to fix our โbrokenโ immigration system.
Will they advocate for amnesty or deportation? Iโll leave you to decide which one is more likely.
