Chicago’s Tiered Justice System Rises Again

When you’re not involved in a gunfight or watching the Cubs lose in Chicago, there is a realistic chance that you could be affected in some manner by the revolving door of an “unjust” legal system there.

Like many Democratically run cities, the District Attorneys and Judges ignore the rule of law and basic commonsense to keep criminals on the street. In a recent example, a half-naked woman stole a policeman’s vehicle, ran him over, fled in the SUV, and, while exceeding speeds of over 90 mph during her flight, struck five other cars before being arrested.

Now, it would be reasonable to assume that her actions would result in her being behind bars for an extended period of time. However, she was acquitted of all charges when a woke, liberal judge on Wednesday agreed with defense arguments that she was mentally insane.

After a bench trial last month, Cook County Judge Tyria Walton found Whitley Temple not guilty of one count of attempted murder. Additionally, Temple was found not guilty by reason of insanity on four other charges, including two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, vehicular hijacking, and possession of a stolen vehicle. As a result of the verdict, Temple remains free but is required to report to court for a meeting with mental health officials to discuss a treatment plan.

A treatment plan? How is this justice? If the woman is insane, she needs to be held in an asylum, not free on some outpatient treatment plan.

During the bench trial, Temple’s defense attorney told the judge that his client was “in a psychotic state” at the time of the 2022 incident. He argued that this is a “textbook insanity case.” Both sides presented their closing arguments on Wednesday before Walton announced her verdict.

Prosecutors have said that on June 13, 2022, Chicago Police Officer Edward Poppish discovered Temple after responding to a call of shots fired in the area that morning. When he exited his patrol vehicle to investigate her actions, Temple attacked the officer and fled in his SUV, stated CPD Superintendent David Brown to FOX 32 Chicago.

Prosecutors claimed that shortly after the incident, Temple drove the SUV to a gas station. She got out while it was still rolling, went into the station, returned, and drove away with the patrol car again. Then, she drove onto the inbound Eisenhower Expressway, weaving in and out of traffic at 97 MPH, and was still going 76 MPH when she exited at Sacramento Boulevard. She started running red lights on surface streets and struck five occupied cars. Temple then got out of the car and ran down the block until the police arrested her.

Prosecutors also alleged that the gunfire Poppish was responding to was caused by Temple shooting at a bystander, who was not injured.

Unbelievably, while the case was pending, Temple landed a job as a lead accountant at the city’s Department of Family and Support Services. However, she lost the job in March after it was publicly revealed that the city had hired someone to be an accountant while they were awaiting trial for allegedly trying to kill a Chicago police officer.

Poppish, a 23-year veteran of the police force, suffered a concussion and required six stitches to his head.

Temple’s attorney stated that she “was in a psychotic state” and had been worrying her family for days leading up to the incident. She had a “paranoid idea” that people were after her and trying to harm the women in her family. Additionally, she believed she had been sexually assaulted.

The city of Chicago’s treatment of this case is beyond disgusting. To employ a woman that a liberal judge would eventually declare to be insane after trying to kill a Chicago officer sets a new low.

The insane, if they commit criminal offenses need to be off of the streets. Insanity may explain their actions, but it still doesn’t excuse them.
