Do Americans Know About the 1917 Miracle of the Sun? 70,000 Were There

Over a century ago today in Fatima, Portugal, a heavenly visitor to our humble earth–the Blessed Virgin Mary–began a series of appearances that would predict world happenings still years and decades away. She would predict the rise of Communism in the Soviet Union seven years before the Bolshevik Revolution ended. She would predict the Great War would end, now dubbed “World War I,” but that a greater one would emerge–if people didn’t repent–at the end of the 1930s under the reign of the very Catholic pope who ended up being elected.

And 70,000 would witness confirmation of all of this on October 13, 1917.

At this time, World War I was still raging, and the Russian Civil War was breaking out. The heavenly visitor asserted that Russia would be the instrument through which God chastised the world for its sins. Russia would spread its “errors,” she said, an indication that the bloody twentieth century would be on Communism’s hands. She predicted that wars and persecutions would be unbridled and that nations would be annihilated.

It is important to remember, however, according to Fatima scholar Christopher A. Ferrara, that Communism was not the only error. This is especially important to remember since Communism has long been vanquished in the Soviet Union.

The errors of Russia certainly include Communism (an error which is still spreading today, even if it appears to have been defeated by Russia), but they are not limited to this one particular evil. The errors of Russia also include the errors of Freemasonry, Zionism and many others still. These ideologies…stand against Our Lord Jesus Christ, true God and true Man. They are opposed to His Gospel, His Church and His Blessed Mother Mary.

What is difficult for some people to realize is how the errors of Russia could have spread to and within the Catholic church. Here we must remember the example of the Apostle Judas, who betrayed Jesus Christ unto His death.

Judas was only able to betray Our Lord by virtue of his position as an Apostle. Similarly, those “Judases” who betray Fatima can do so only as a result of their position of rank within the Church (Ferrara, False Friends of Fatima).

Indeed, it is chilling to study the infiltration of the Catholic Church, which began centuries ago, and to bow my head in sadness that so many of my Protestant brethren don’t realize that they are attacking an ape of the Church and not the Church itself. The following is crucial reading for Catholics who don’t understand the recent explosion of Traditional Catholicism (pre-1962, ’55, or ’48, depending on your historical focus), for it seems to point to the very Masonic, not-at-all Catholic activity occurring all over the Catholic world today and over the last half century.

This is not relegated to just the Vatican. It has seeped into every aspect of “Catholic” culture.

Back to 1917. On the geopolitical front, the Russian Civil War raged until the Bolsheviks took control for good, forming the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on December 30, 1922, a regime that fell in 1989 but not before a most vicious ideology had spread far and wide.

Communism. It is a religion that eventually morphs into atheism and an outright hatred of Christianity, a reflection of the Masonic “brotherhood” and “unity” Francis so often espouses in his teaching. Hyperpapalist Catholics who have bought into the lie that we are to obey the pope no matter what would do well to study the encyclicals of previous popes, especially the courageous anti-Modernist Pius X, who reigned just before World War I broke out and whose work is truly prophetic. Here is a stern warning against Communism from Pius XI is his Encyclical on Atheistic Communism in 1937, just before the outbreak of what the Blessed Mother had called the “greater” war:

See to it venerable Brethren, that the Faithful do not allow themselves to be deceived! Communism is intrinsically evil, and no one who would save Christian civilization may collaborate with it in any undertaking whatsoever. Those who permit themselves to be deceived into lending their aid towards the triumph of Communism in their own country, will be the first to fall victims of the error. And the greater the antiquity and grandeur of the Christian civilization in the regions where Communism successfully penetrates, so much more devastating will be the hatred displayed by the godless.

The more a society tolerates the intolerant, the more intolerable that society will become by the tolerated. The godless do not understand balance or empathy just because they are granted it. It only makes them more wicked.

This, combined with the two articles listed above and the recent call for ongoing dialogue between Catholics and Freemasons, should alert any Catholic to the fact that something is gravely amiss, but so many are stuck in either apathy or a paradoxical active, lazy trust. It is the spirit of Antichrist, his One World Religion that has been being built for centuries, floating a cunning assortment of lies, including Freemasonry, the Noahide Laws, and other forms of Naturalism. It is all a deception, a perversion and outright break from the monarchy of Christ in our heart and in visible society. It is and will continue to lead billions of people, not awake to such spiritual landmines, away from God and eternal life.

All of this, and so much more, was what the Blessed Mother was warning about in six apparitions starting on May 13, 1917 and ending on October 13 with the famed Miracle of the Sun–a non-Resurrection miracle perhaps rivaled in human history only by the parting of the Red Sea. Ferrara recounts the story, but this is widely published and was covered extensively by the 1917 press–including anti-Christian ones:

The world knows–even Hollywood knows–(footnote: The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima, Warner Brothers (1952)–that on October 13, 1917, some 70,000 souls witnessed the Miracle of the Sun at the Cova da Iria. In this country field outside the Portuguese village of Fatima, the three Fatima seers, Lucia dos Santos…and her cousins, Jacinta and Francisco Marto, had been receiving a series of apparitions by the Blessed Virgin on the 13th of each month since May. At precisely the moment pre-announced by Lucia–noon, solar time–the Miracle that authenticated the apparitions for even the skeptical began.

Over the next twelve minutes the sun danced in the sky, threw off a stunning array of colors that transformed the landscape, and then plunged toward the terrified crowd, instantly drying the muddy field and the clothing of the rain-drenched witnesses before the phenomenon ended with the sun returning to its normal place in the sky. The amount of solar energy involved in that feat would have incinerated everyone present, but not a soul was harmed. Quite the contrary, at the same moment numerous miraculous cures and–hardly surprising!–instantaneous conversions took place among the witnesses (Ferrara, False Friends).

It is perhaps the biggest deal of the twentieth century, and ask yourself if you’ve ever heard of it–whether you’re Catholic or not. It is a story that holds a special place in my ongoing study of world and religious affairs and a special place in my heart as the Marian apparition that has impacted me most. After the three uneducated peasant children who had no idea what “Russia” even meant (one would later say she thought Mary was talking about a mean lady!) received threats from the Portugal town, including Catholic authorities themselves, after six appearances including the October 13 Miracle of the Sun event, after thirteen long years of scrutiny, the bishop of Leiria, José Alves Correia da Silva, declared the events worthy of belief on October 13, 1930.

In other words, if you are having doubts as you read this, rest assured that the Catholic Church once upon a time took great pains to ensure that the veracity of events such as this was beyond rock solid. They still do, which is why other apparitions are still under investigation.

The children’s heavenly visions would not only rock the Catholic Church, but quite frankly the whole world. Investigating geopolitical affairs with Fatima grafted to it changes everything. It makes for a completely different researching and thinking experience.

May everyone named directly or referenced indirectly ask forgiveness and do penance for their sins against America and God. I fight this information war in the spirit of justice and love for the innocent, but I have been reminded of the need for mercy and prayers for our enemies. I am a sinner in need of redemption as well after all, for my sins are many. In the words of Jesus Christ himself, Lord forgive us all, for we know not what we do.
