On The Verdict…
What’s scary about what happened today isn’t that this kangaroo-court verdict will hold up. It most certainly won’t. Joe DiGenova called this the most corrupt judicial proceeding in American history, and he’s probably right. This is a modern-day Scottsboro case, and it wasn’t a bunch of poor black kids from out of town getting framed up, it was a former president of the United States.
Even the Scottsboro defendants were ultimately exonerated.
And it’s also probably true that politically this is going to be one of the sharpest backfires in American history. I saw a poll from yesterday where 54 percent of the public says that was a kangaroo court, and that number is only going to go up. There’s another poll which has Trump within eight points of Biden in New York, which means even at the site of this debacle it has played badly. As more and more comes out about the conduct of the trial, it’s only going to get worse. There are people saying this cinches the election for Trump, and while I’m not sure about that I wouldn’t argue with the contention.
No, what’s scary about today is that it proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that there are no limits to the abuse of power the modern Left will undertake. They will do literally anything to control their fellow man.
And that’s truly frightening, because what it tells you is that if and when this does backfire and Trump wins the election, you can’t have any faith at all that they will willingly and lawfully surrender power. They’re telling themselves that Trump will be a dictator and that if he wins we won’t have any more elections, and that should be taken as pure projection on their part. It’s a signal that they’re readying themselves to act accordingly.
I hate to sound like an alarmist, but the only way to see this clearly is to put aside the assumptions we’ve all grown up with. Those assumptions, were they still accurate, would have prevented this trial in New York from ever happening – and yet it did.
