The Man who Fiddled while Minnesota Burned

A well-known myth about the Roman Emperor Nero has persisted through the centuries. Legend has it that Nero fiddled during the “Great Fire of Rome” in 62 AD. After six days of burning, over half of Rome was destroyed.

While Nero likely did not strike a tune while Rome burned, his overall irresponsibility and poor leadership still serves as an important warning to political leaders in the Western tradition.

This week, America received an important reminder as to whom our modern day Nero is: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

In a surprising move, current Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris announced Governor Walz as her running mate for the 2024 presidential election. Walz was not previously considered to be a frontrunner for the Democratic VP sweepstakes. However, most of the other major Democratic politicians declined Harris’s VP spot—including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and California Gov. Gavin Newsome.

Nevertheless, Tim Walz is Harris’s man now. So, it’s important to reacquaint ourselves with Walz. After all, a recent Marist poll found that roughly 70% of Americans know little to nothing about Governor Walz.

If you don’t know too much about Governor Walz, TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk’s viral post on X/Twitter is a detailed account of Walz’s record as Governor of Minnesota.

Simply put, Governor Walz allowed rioters to burn down the city of Minneapolis for several days during the summer of 2020. At the time, Walz was a huge proponent of the violent rioting coming from the BLM movement. In fact, Governor Walz reportedly shared confidential information to his daughter about the National Guard’s movements during the May 2020 riots, and his daughter leaked this information online to rioters.

Here is an excerpt from a recent Fox News article recounting Governor Walz’s poor response to the riots.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was critical of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walzโ€™s response to the unrest in his city in May 2020, saying later that year that the governor hesitated to send the National Guard as the city burned in the aftermath ofย George Floyd’s death.

Frey spoke out about Walzโ€™s response during an August 2020 interview with the Star Tribune, telling the outlet his office made multiple dire requests forย National Guardย resources to the governor that were not granted until after the city was forced to abandon a besieged police precinct.

Texts and emails obtained by the Star Tribune for the story seemingly corroborate Freyโ€™s claim, showing that Frey first placed a call to Walz on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, the second day of the unrest in Minneapolis, at 6:39 p.m. and asked the governor to call in the National Guard.

Besides his enablement of the George Floyd riots, Gov. Walz holds a poor, far-left record on various political issues—including his support for unconstitutional censorship, abortion, mass immigration, and many other issues.

At the end of the day, a vote for Harris-Walz in the 2024 election is a vote for the continued decline of America. A vote for Harris-Walz is a vote for lawlessness during the summer of 2020.

Never forget what politicians like Governor Walz did to this country in 2020. Unconstitutional COVID-19 lockdowns, widescale destruction of American cities, and the replacement of native Minnesotans with Somali refugees are just saw of the major legacies of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The American people must remember these facts during this November’s presidential election.
