Reparations By Any Other Name
Kamala Harris is like a dealer in an old western town. You think she’s on the up and up; you’re not losing too much…. At first, then you realize she’s been dealing off of the bottom of the deck the whole time. You can also think of it this way. You sign a contract that should help you, but then it dawns on you that you never read the small print.
To say Harris is an enigma would let her off the hook too quickly. She’s naïve, and she’s dangerous. Her ideals are not congruent with reality. Like all leftists, she only sees one side of anything, and it’s always something that will make her look better than her true intentions.
Harris is trying to adopt a more moderate stance, but what she says and does are most definitely two different things. Staunchly against a wall and border security, she has now flipped and wants more security. For years, she believed in defunding the police; now, she has changed her tune. Another example is fracking. She has been persistently against it, but now, she needs Pennsylvania votes and is suddenly for it.
What’s problematic about Harris’s flip-flopping is that she continues to repeat that “her values have not changed,” so what does that mean? It sounds as though she is only saying these things in an attempt to get elected, and if she is, she will go right back to her leftist roots. Her own words should give anyone even considering voting for her pause.
Even the things she seems not to have flipped on demand closer scrutiny. When you hear her promise to provide “first-time homebuyers with $25,000 to cover the down payment,” if you intend to buy a house soon, that sounds enticing. You don’t even stop to consider where the money is coming from or who is actually paying that downpayment.
However, nothing is ever cut and dry with Harris alone or the Biden/Harris administration. For instance, in March, Biden bragged that he supported legislation to provide:
“$25,000 in down payment assistance to first-generation homebuyers whose families haven’t benefited from the generational wealth building associated with homeownership.”
Notice the difference? The promise is not for first-time homebuyers but for first-generation homebuyers. In August, the Democrats made the concept part of their platform, limiting the $25,000 down payment help to buyers “from families where no one has ever before owned a home.”
The issue here is the proposal is racially motivated and discriminates against whites. The program leans heavily toward minorities whose parents were never homeowners and punishes whites who had parents who were homeowners. Currently, only 44 percent of black families own their homes, compared to 73 percent of white families. Black buyers are nearly twice as likely to qualify for assistance compared to white buyers, mainly if the assistance is limited to first-generation homebuyers.
Harris’s campaign website posted policy statements in an attempt to soften the issue. Regarding the $25,000 down payment help, the website added that “first-generation homeowners” will get “more generous support.”
The Down Payment Toward Equity Act, supported by Biden-Harris and introduced in the House by Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., and in the Senate by Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., clarifies who is eligible.
The bill allocates $20,000 to first-generation homebuyers with incomes below 120 percent of the median in their area.
The help is increased to $25,000 if the buyer is from a “socially and economically disadvantaged group,” defined as being Black, Hispanic, Asian American, or Native American. Noticeably missing are white first-time homeowners whose parents owned a home.
The bill states that its purpose is “to narrow and ultimately close the racial homeownership gap in the United States.” Waters claims it aims to correct “grave injustices against people of color” caused by past U.S. policies. Coming from Maxine Waters, this is not surprising. Waters lives under the assumption that systemic racism is real because, like all leftists, blaming others instead of looking into the mirror and admitting that its Democratic policies have created the minority dilemma.
Harris hasn’t hidden her true beliefs on this matter either. As a U.S. Senator, 2019. Harris also stated that the goal was to shrink the homeownership gap between blacks and whites.
“We must right the wrong and after generations of discrimination and give Black families a real shot at home ownership.”
The problem with Waters, Harris, and all leftists is crystal clear in that statement. They continuously push the fallacy that everything wrong within the society of minorities, and blacks in particular, is due to discrimination.
The real problem is that the left has perpetuated reliance upon the government among minorities for decades. They do not accentuate self-reliance, which includes fathers remaining in the home and demonstrating discipline and family values, which, as much as the left hates to admit it, are necessary for a productive society.
When Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., proposed a plan to assist all low-income first-time homebuyers, he faced opposition from racial justice and housing advocates who argued that too many white individuals would qualify.
“A tax credit for all first-time homebuyers is going to expand the racial homeownership gap,” objected David Dworkin, president and CEO of the National Housing Conference.
In an incredibly ignorant statement, Dworkin tried to compare a father loaning money to his children’s family for a house that may or may not be repaid to a taxpayer-funded loan that favors minorities, specifically blacks.
Dworkin spewed forth this pitiful excuse:
“We are providing first-generation homebuyers, mainly people of color, with the same family assistance that white, first-time homebuyers have been receiving for years in the form of the ‘Daddy Down Payment’ loan, which is almost never repaid.”
The left loves promoting what they call equality at the expense of others, and by doing so they create division and resentment. Harris has a long history of creating division through her policies and this is just another case in point.
Democrats have painted themselves into a corner by placing two incompetent puppets into office. Our job as American citizens is to keep them in that corner come November.
