The Trump Administration Should Hold Biden Officials Who Broke the Law Accountable
America came dangerously close to the brink during one of the worst and most incompetent administrations over the last four years. President Biden pressured social media companies to engage in censorship, weaponized the Justice Department, and even retaliated against allies of President Trump in the private sector such as as Elon Musk. While Trump won the election, if Harris had defeated the President-Elect, the left would have almost certainly engaged in the same disgusting tactics that were used over the last four years to try to keep Trump and his supporters from regaining power. This is why while the President-elect should not seek revenge, something he wouldn’t do anyways, Trump still needs to hold people within the Biden administration accountable for these individuals’ abuses of power.
The Justice Department and the FBI are both broken institutions with deep-seed cultural problems, and this is why the most important appointment by President-elect Trump was Matt Gaetz, a former congressman who himself was a target of Merrick Garland’s corruption. Trump should obviously primarily focus on the massive and desperately needed reforms the country strongly voted for this past election, but he should also take actions to further safeguard our critically important Democratic institutions. While some of the political prosecutions of Trump were done at the state and local level in Georgia and New York, the federal government played a critical role in many of the pathetic and corrupt indictments of the President-elect. If Garland and others who weaponized the Justice Department are not investigated for the clear and egregious abuses of power these individuals committed, there will be no deterrent to future leaders further weaponizing the rule of law against their political opponents as well.
The corrupt FBI and Justice Department targeted peaceful pro-life protestors, parents at school board meetings, those who were only peaceful observers on January 6th, and Trump as well as his inner circle as well. While some of these abusive practices may not have been clear violations of the law, there should be a full investigation into the corruption within the FBI and the Justice Department, with nominee Matt Gaetz and a Republican-controlled Congress conducting a complete inquiry into one of the most embarrassing chapters in American history. Trump supporters such as Steve Bannon, Peter Navarro, and Paul Manafort, were jailed solely for political reasons. Even Democrats such as mayor Adams were targeted as well when he spoke out against illegal immigration and the devastating impact of the open border on New York City’s resources.
There needs to be a complete investigation of the many significant abuses of power by the FBI and the Justice Department led by Brey and Garland in order to hold these individuals accountable and to make sure both that these failure don’t happen again, as well as to restore public confidence in the rule of law. A complete and transparent inquiry with criminal referrals will put future leaders on notice that there are real consequences for there disturbing actions.
The fact people who peacefully walked into the capitol on January 6th were put in jail for years, some in solitary confinement, with an individual in this situation even committing suicide, shows how important it is for the country to be confident that what happened over the last 4 years never happen again. The FBI has slowly been transformed into a domestic intelligence operation since 9-11, designed to surveil Americans, and Trump needs to refocus this critically important law enforcement organization on keeping the country safe, not targeting people because of their political beliefs. The President-elect won in part by focusing on the future, not the past, but Trump should not ignore the many significant and egregious practices by former top officials within the Biden Administration. Holding criminals accountable is important both to ensure that justice occurs but also to set a precedent as well, Trump needs to send the message that the politicization of the rule of law is unacceptable.
