Costco Bulks Up On Woke
Say it ain’t so Costco. Don’t you dare break my heart. I love Costco; everything from your cleaning products to your meat and produce and, of course, your wine and liquor. Now, what is this? You’re pulling a Bud Light/Target? Do all leftists have to be such slow learners?
Thanks largely to conservative activist Robby Starbuck and a public waking up from the deviously crafted delusion, companies such as Walmart, Lowe’s, and John Deere have scaled back on the DEI nonsense.
However, the radicals in charge at Costco are trying to buck the trend of returning to reality. The company’s board of directors unanimously recommended that shareholders vote against a proposal put forth by the National Center for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank. The proposal requested that Costco reevaluate and issue a report on the potential financial risks associated with its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The group alleged that Costco might be engaging in “illegal discrimination” against white, Asian, male, or straight employees as a result of its DEI policies.
Costco foolishly defended its DEI policies in the typical flawed manner that others have tried. They stated that the policies are crucial for attracting and retaining a diverse workforce, which enhances the company’s ability to serve its members. None of which is true.
In a proxy statement to investors, the company said:
“Among other things, a diverse group of employees helps bring originality and creativity to our merchandise offerings, promoting the ‘treasure hunt’ that our customers value. We believe (and member feedback shows) that many of our members like to see themselves reflected in the people in our warehouses with whom they interact.”
Costco urged shareholders to reject the proposal and criticized the National Center for Public Policy Research, accusing the organization of promoting an anti-diversity agenda under the guise of risk reduction.
“The proponent professes concern about legal and financial risks to the company and its shareholders associated with the diversity initiatives. The supporting statement demonstrates that it is the proponent and others who are responsible for inflicting burdens on companies with their challenges to longstanding diversity programs. The proponent’s broader agenda is not reducing risk for the company but abolition of diversity initiatives.”
Costco couldn’t be more wrong. DEI is nothing more than a quota program that eliminates hiring on merit and substitutes skin color and sexual preferences as hiring measuring sticks. The result of such practices always results in decreased production and efficiency.
There is no substitute for merit and experience when hiring in any situation. Trying to be politically correct by hiring under DEI standards not only excludes white candidates it’s discriminatory and morally wrong. The left struggles with this concept, only because it doesn’t meet the criteria of their agenda.
