The Democratic Party’s New Fights with Trump Show a Party that is Lost at Sea
The Democratic party is a political movement with no brand or message. When Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, the left hid behind the fact that Trump hadn’t won the popular vote, and claimed the MAGA agenda didn’t represent the majority of America. That enabled an awful lot of “resistance” and obstruction.
But the 2024 election changed everything.
The country saw 12 years of failed left-wing policies under Biden and Obama, and made a clear and decisive choice to go with Trump and his policy agenda. The President won the popular vote and an electoral landslide.
The Democrats spent four years focused on trying to position themselves as the party that is defending Democracy and focusing on issues the left prioritizes that have nothing to do with middle and working-class people, such as climate change. When Trump won a resounding victory in November, he didn’t just defeat Harris, he destroyed the entire branding of the failed modern Democratic Party. The left can’t say they are protecting Democracy when the people are with Trump. The entire message of the left was firmly rejected by the country in November.
The message sent by the American people this past November was a clear mandate for President Trump and also a signal that the country wants both parties to work together as well. Some Democrats, such as Senator Fetterman and even Senator Sanders, understood this concept, but most leaders on the left refuse to accept reality. The recent battles the Democrats have chosen to fight in court and in Congress show that most of the left continues to simply ignore the will of the people. Minority leader Jefferies and Senator Warren just this past week spoke against the efforts by Musk to curb Government waste. Governor Pritzker of Illinois and other state leaders have also expressed the desire to impede the work of Tom Homan in engaging in massive deportations.
The lines being drawn are very clear. President Trump represents the middle and working class, while the Democratic Party has become an entity of and by the elites. The middle and lower class of America was hurt significantly by illegal immigration and the open border policies of the failed past administration, and most of the government waste that occurs obviously hurts working-class people as well, since this is money that goes for programs that actually work in addition to meaning the government is collecting more money than needed.
The refusals of Governors such as Newsom and Pritzker to cooperate with Trump on deporting people who broke the law and are here illegally even when citizens have been crushed by rising prices and stagnating wages, signals that the Democratic party is completely out of touch with the American people. These recent efforts also show that the left did not hear the message that the citizens of this country clearly and loudly sent this past November. There is an old saying in history that those who don’t understand the past are bound to repeat it, the Democrat’s recent actions show the party is still not listening to the people.
