Chuch Schumer’s Media Appearance on The View Again Highlights the Democrat’s Biggest Problem

Sometimes old theories age well. While many of famous psychologists’ Freud and Carl Jung work on the collective subconscious and other issues are no longer accepted by many academics, some intellectuals’ work has aged much better. One of the most famous political philosophers of the 17th century was John Locke. The famous English theorist wrote on many subjects, but he is most well-known for his idea of the social contract. Locke believed that there was an unwritten agreement between the government and the people, and if those in charge no longer represented the public, the leaders would not be able to remain in power regardless of whether the society was a Democracy or not.

The Democratic party is lost. The left tried to rationalize losing the 2016 election by arguing the Electoral College was unfair since Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, but with Trump winning both the Electoral College and the popular vote, this already bad talking point has fallen to the side. Trump got more votes than any incumbent President in US history in 2020, and received nearly the same 75 million votes in 2024. Biden and the Democrats stood for nothing and no one, the signature piece of legislation of the failed previous Administration was the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, a bill prioritizing what the left refers to as climate change, an issue most middle and working-class families do not care about.

The Democratic party has also been divided on how to approach Trump’s second term. Harris tried to pitch her campaign to the public as defending Democracy, but since the country sided overwhelmingly with Trump, that kind of messaging won’t work, since the Democrats would be defending the country from the American people who chose the current President and his MAGA agenda. This conflict with the broken Democratic party came to the surface again when Minority Leader Chuck Schumer acquiesced to the Republican budget by not filibustering the continuing resolution passed by House Republicans. Many on the left are now calling for the New York Senator’s head since he dared to not block a President who won with a mandate from getting his budget that the public supports.

Schumer was even forced to explain why he went along with what the public voted for on the embarassing left-wing media show The View, even though the Minority leader in reality couldn’t stop the President from getting his budget passed anyway. While the New York liberal rationally explained why shutting the government down would not help the Democrats’ issues with Trump anyway since the President could use the lack of funding to make more cuts, many on the left still want the senior Senator gone.

The fact that most Democrats refuse to accept Trump’s resounding victory in 2024, or even enable the President to have the budget he ran on and the public supports passed shows the biggest problem with the left today. The Democratic party is not listening to the public, or governing with the country’s consent. Trump and the Republicans represent the middle and work class of the country, the left mostly represents out of touch progressives. Conservatives are listening to America, liberals are trying to give the nation a lecture. The country wants a government to represent and respect who we are, not lecture and try to transform us.

While Trump is leading in many ways, he and the MAGA movement are also listening to the American people, and representing them. The clear message sent by the country in 2024 was that Americans support Trump and the citizens of this nation want Democrats to work with him to get his agenda passed on the border, economic issues, and also on ending the needless war between Ukraine and Russia that Biden started with the support of the corrupt establishment. The Democratic party is not governing with the consent of the public, the left does not respect or represent the people. Until the broken Democrats begin listening to the public, the left will not win elections. A party and a government operating without the consent of the people cannot stand for very long.
