Forget “Au Revoir.” Canada, We Bid You “Adieu”
I’m sure many Americans and Canadians are confused by the developments between our two countries. Many will develop an opinion based on what they hear from their leaders. Canada’s new liberal fascist Prime Minister Mark Carney, and blowhards like the Ontario Premier, Doug Ford, have pulled up a soap box and are trash-talking America, big time. So many will probably become America haters.
Frankly, I’m okay with that because I believe over time, the Canadian people will understand what started this feud. However, in the meantime, the Canadian “leaders” are taking this over a bridge too far, and the wound they are creating may never heal in a diplomatic sense.
When Trump first brought up tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods, it was done for two reasons, which I have discussed in past columns. One reason was to reinitiate trade on a level playing field, but the main reason was border protection. The United States was under siege by illegal immigrants at both borders. Their illegal entrance brought about a massive increase in illicit drug trafficking, including the extremely deadly Fentanyl, warring gangs, and human smuggling.
Initially, Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff on Mexican imports. However, he postponed the implementation of these tariffs until April 2 after discussions with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. When Trump first announced his tariff plan in February, the Mexican president deployed 10,000 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. In a typical weak response, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appointed a Fentanyl Czar in exchange for a temporary pause on the tariffs.
A Fentanyl Czar? Are you serious?
The entire Canadian border enforcement system, comprising agents, support personnel, and the complete operation for a 5,000-mile border, is staffed by only 300 people. That fact alone is a slap in the face to America and demonstrates a total lack of respect by our “friendly” neighbor to the north.
Speaking of disrespect, Doug Ford is becoming more like his drug addicted brother every day. In case you don’t remember, the late Rob Ford, who allegedly snorted more snow than he ever shoveled, was once the disgraced mayor of Toronto. Now, it’s Doug who is out of control and making outrageous statements.
At a news conference, Ford announced the Canadian government’s intention to “inflict as much pain as possible against the American people.”
Canadian leaders don’t understand, and their slow learning process and idle threats will ultimately cost the Canadian people. During the original negotiations of the USMCA, which altered the trading dynamic to a “hand up” instead of a “hand out,” Mexico wisely remained silent while Canada whined and drew President Donald Trump’s attention.
Ford’s idea of inflicting pain means:
Revoking free Visa access.
Closing the border.
Embargo all goods.
Restrict financial services.
Turn off Swift access in Canada.
On Thursday, Ford said he had a 25-minute conversation with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick Wednesday night. In that conversation, he received more detailed information about how a specific part of the executive order could be implemented. He mentioned that he was informed that vehicles containing more than 50 percent American-made parts crossing the border from Canada would not be subject to tariffs.
Ford explained, those with less will be subject to a 12.5-percent tariff, “which, in my opinion, is not good at all.” Still, he is not clear when, and if, these changes will actually occur.
Speaking about the call with Lutnick, Ford said:
“He’s reassuring us that there will be no plant closures. I don’t believe it, in my opinion, but we have to work with them and make sure that we do everything in our power to keep these plants moving, keep them up and going.”
Ford mentioned that he had a conversation earlier in the day with Prime Minister Mark Carney. They agreed that retaliation is necessary, but it should only occur after April 2, when Canada will assess the impact of the additional reciprocal U.S. tariffs that President Trump has promised. This date is referred to by Trump as “Liberation Day.”
Look, Trump asked Prime Minister Trudeau and the Canadian government to close the border to drug traffickers and shut down the pipeline of Chinese fentanyl. However, the Canadian government chose not to, and Prime Minister Mark Carney continues this refusal.
Trump asked the Canadian government to eliminate trade tariffs, remove non-tariff trade barriers, and establish reciprocal trade. However, the Canadian government chose not to comply.
Trump requested that the Canadian government stop acting as a pass-through for Chinese goods that violate the USMCA. However, the Canadian government declined to comply.
Trump requested that the Canadian government allow access to U.S. banks and financial services. The Canadian government refused.
Trump asked the Canadian government to meet the NATO commitment of spending 2.5 percent of its GDP on military defense. The Canadian government responded that they would not and insisted that the U.S. still defend them without charge.
Canada has destroyed most of their heavy industry by chasing the climate change hoax in all its economic policies. Canada, led by the snowflake Trudeau and now “Carnival” Carney, is systematically destroying itself.
Canada imported steel and aluminum from China and then shipped it to the United States, undermining U.S. industry and attempting to weaken U.S. heavy industry to align with their own level of dependence. Eventually, and justifiably, President Trump said, “Enough!”
Canadians should not be fooled. All of this bluster is an excuse for the Trudeau/Carney cabal to align itself even more closely with Great Britain and Europe. However, to do so, they must first portray the United States as the villain.
In a speech to the Canadian people, Carney made his intentions perfectly clear while burning bridges between our countries with every word.
Carney’s speech to the nation informed the Canadian people that the era of economic and military collaboration between the United States and Canada has ended.
While most Canadians celebrated, the Carney announced that Canada, as a free, independent, and sovereign nation, will strengthen its connections with the United Kingdom and the European Union. This marks a shift away from the country’s previous reliance on the United States, as Canada seeks to sever its ties in North America and enter a new era of closer relations with the United Kingdom and the European Union.
When asked whether Canada would consider joining the European Union, which seems like a natural fit for the ideologically aligned country, Prime Minister Carney stated, “Nothing is off the table.” In a noteworthy conclusion to the discussion, Carney also announced that the economic and military ties between the USA and Canada have been officially severed.
Carney is leading Canada down a path of economic destruction. He acts like a tough guy, but he is nothing more than another liberal snowflake that Canada foolishly placed in a position of power. He reminds me of a weak little boy who got offended by his girlfriend, who made reasonable requests of him. Then, instead of working it out, he found a different weak little girl who asks nothing of him and embraces his weak, irresponsible ideals.
To the Canadian people, we Americans say “bonne chance et prends soin de toi.” To Carney, Ford, and the rest of their cabal, we say “Good Riddance.”
