The Democrat’s Official Response to Trump’s Joint Congressional Address Highlights Why the Party’s Message Remains Incoherent

Relitigating the past is usually a futile exercise. While learning from history is important, those who don’t understand the events of previous years are bound to repeat them, individuals still have to accept the events that have already occurred. For years the Democrats have complained that Republicans keep questioning the legitimacy of the 2020 election. The left has even used pathetic terms such as election denier, even though politicians such as Stacey Abrams and Hillary Clinton repeatedly have constantly refused to accept clear election results.

The Democrats’ disorganized and incoherent response to President Trump’s joint address to Congress highlights why the party is lost right now. Many members of the broken party did not even show up to hear the 47th President speak, and one pathetic Congressmen, Al Green, even tried to interrupt Trump constantly by yelling, The official opposition speech to Trump’s address by newly elected Senator Slotkin of Michigan also showed that the Democrats still have two key problems in how the party attempts to confront President Trump and his agenda.

Slotkin’s brief ten-minute attempt to respond to the President’s speech, which received overwhelmingly positive reviews from the American public, focused on several factors. The Senator from Michigan repeated the same tired and wrong talking about that attempted to link Trump to Putin and suggest that he’s not fit to run the country, while also suggesting his policies on issues such as tariffs will hurt working-class Americans. Slotkin’s speech left out two key points, where the Democrats are going to work with Trump, and what the party’s plans are.

When Republicans lost control of the White House and Congress in 1992, New Gingrich led a massive conservative comeback in 1994 by detailing plans with his Contract for America. The former Congressmen talked about balancing the budget, cutting taxes, reforming welfare, and cutting spending. Gingrich discussed specific policies that he and the Republicans stood for, and the successful politician later implemented them as Speaker. The American people spoke clearly in November, the public wants Democrats to work with Trump to implement his agenda, and the country also rejected the policies and divisiveness of the left. The irony of a white moderate Democrat giving the far left-wing party’s response is also that the Michigan Senator would have zero chance of representing this broken version of her own party as a Presidential candidate.

Slotkin’s speech and the Democrat’s overall message remains incoherent. The party won’t commit to working with Trump on anything, even obvious and nonpartisan issues such as cleaning up government waste. Additionally, Democrats are also still questioning whether a man who has been elected twice and received more votes than any sitting President in the history of the country is fit to lead. The left still doesn’t realize that when these radicals refer to a President who won the popular vote as a threat to Democracy, the people with that message are also referring to the American people themselves as dangerous. The Democratic party has no articulable message or substantive policy proposals for working class people either, Biden’s signature piece of legislation, the absurdly named Inflation Reduction Act, focused on climate change, an issue the middle class of this country is not concerned with. John F. Kennedy once famously stated that an error only becomes a mistake until someone refuses to correct it. The reality for the left is that the 2024 election is over and the country has made their mind up about Trump. If the Democrats don’t want to listen to the public or accept the election, the party is bound to repeat the failures the left isn’t learning from.
