The Same Hypocritical Democrats Who Support Raising Taxes Oppose Trump’s Tariffs Because They Say the Burden Will Fall on the Middle-Class

It is actually news when the Democrats say anything truthful about Trump or the MAGA movement. From the Russian hoax lie to the false claims that the President called troops suckers, the left has been lying about Trump since he came down the escalator to announce his run for the Presidency in 2015. Most on the left believe in manufactured consent, or the idea that the media should push agendas and report false or exaggerated stories to try to manipulate public opinion to support the agenda of the Democrats. This concept is the primary reason the public has largely rejected the failing and corrupt liberal legacy media.

The latest lie that the Democrats and their allies in the failing old traditional media are telling is that Trump’s tariff will cause prices to rise significantly, hurting middle and working-class families. If the left didn’t have double standards, these individuals would have no standards at all. First, Trump is imposing his tariffs on countries, not goods, so the companies importing goods from nations impacted by these tariffs will have to sell products at competitive prices, since these businesses will be competing with companies that are producing goods in countries not affected by the President’s latest actions. Second, companies will adjust. While countries such as China will feel the impact of the President’s latest action, many businesses located in countries affected by tariffs will recalibrate their supply chain, including moving manufacturing and production into the United States, as a leading Taiwanese manufacturer just did. When President Trump was in office for his first term, many companies that were previously operating in China, moved to Vietnam and other countries. The countries hit with these tariffs will lose revenue when companies move manufacturing and distribution, but the businesses and the prices the corporations sell at will remain the same over the long term.

The best evidence of what will happen when Trump’s new tariffs go into effect is to look at the empirical evidence. The President imposed tariffs, including significant measures against China, in his first term, and there was record-low inflation. Former President Biden also refused to remove any of Trump’s tariffs against China, even when prices were rising significantly in 2022 and 2023. There was not a single Democrat who spoke out against Biden or the tariffs that were in effect at the time the Democrat was in office. Even when prices were rising at historically high levels, not a single Democratic leader called for the tariffs that were in effect against China to be removed or even partially reduced.

The ultimate irony here is also the predictable but still absurd level of hypocrisy by the Democrats and the Left. Nearly every single leading Democratic politician supports raising taxes on Corporations, because these individuals claim they want these insitutions and to pay what the left claims is their fair share. The Democrats falsely claim that tariffs are a bad idea because these economic measures are a tax that will be paid by consumers, but these same hypocritical and failed politicans also support raising taxes on large corporations and even small businesses. The tax increases the Democrats support would also hit many small businesses that file as individuals as well. Indeed, while raising taxes on US businesses would be inflationary, imposing short-term tariffs on countries, not businesses or good, will not likely cause any meaningful or long-term price increases.

While certainly, there will likely be some short-term and marginal price increases by businesses heavily dependent on products from China, Mexico, and Canada, most companies simply cannot raise prices significantly because these corporations have to compete with other companies that don’t rely on those markets. In the intermediate and long term, more corporations will also shift manufacturing and distribution into the United States as well, and that is part of the strategy of Trump’s actions as well. If the left and the corrupt media didn’t have double standards, these hypocrites would have no standards at all. These same activists predicted Trump’s tariffs would be inflationary in his first term, and they were wrong, and these individuals also said nothing about Biden leaving the current President’s tariffs in place even when prices were rising dramatically during Biden’s failed term. Trump is standing up for working class people and American industry, and he’s the first US President to fight for this hard for what matters in a long time.
