There is Increasing Evidence Zelenskyy is Trying to Sabotage the Peace Talks

There are few more unique stories of a meteoric rise from obsecurity to a position of power than that of Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The actor and comedian went from television to being President in less than 10 years. The Ukrainian leader was then made into a hero by the Western media, despite much evidence to suggest this depiction is both is not accurate. There is an old saying that the first casualty of war is the truth, and that adage has been true once again in the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

There is significant evidence that Zelenskyy’s regime is is corrupt. Many of the old corrupt Ukrainian oligarchs are his top advisors, and independent journalists such as Seymour Hersh have reported on how the systemic corruption in the country has inlcuded US aid money being skimmed by top officials in the country. The war has led to Zelenskyy being hailed in many corridors of the US and Europe as a hero, and the Ukrainian leader as well as many of his top oligarchs don’t want the massive amount of money his regime is receiving to stop. There are also clearly US and European leaders who for a variety of reasons don’t want the war to stop either, and European leaders recently tried to sabotage Trump’s efforts to get Zelenskyy to the negotiating table. The Ukrainian leader is also unpopular in his country despite banning the free press there, and he hasn’t held elections since 2019, since Zelenskyy knew he would lose. A cease-fire would increase pressure on him to hold nation wide vote that he would not win.

This is why the recent escalations by the Ukranian regime clearly seem to be aimed at destroying the fragile but still progressing peace talks between the US and Russia. Zelenskyy sabotaged the planned signing of a mineral agreement between the US and the Ukrainian government last week, the Ukrainian leader falsely hoped he could get a better deal from the EU than we what was being offered from the US. He is wrong. Europe as usual, is not willing to put up close to the resources the US has already allocated to this senseless war, and American intelligence is key to Ukraine’s ability to continue the conflict as well.

Ukraine recently tried to conduct a massive drone attack on Moscow after hitting a Russian refinery deep within the country just a week ago. Both of these attacks were after Zelenskyy had promised to sign the mineral agreement with the US and engage in peace negotiations to bring the kind of lasting deal that is needed. Ukraine’s decision to launch one of the biggest drone attacks in the entire conflict deep in Russian soil, against Moscow, clearly appears to be an unprovoked escalation designed to derail the fragile but progressing peace talks between the parties. Putin has already indicated he wants to talk peace, and the while the Russian leader can’t be trusted, he wants Zelenskyy out, and he knows the Ukrainian leader can’t win elections he will almost certainly be forced to hold if there is a cease-fire and eventual peace agreement. Zelenskyy is the one with the clear motivation to derail the current negotiations, and these brazen and unprovoked attacks appear designed to do exactly that.

Russia was obviously wrong to invade Ukraine, and Putin is a bad person. Still, Zelenskyy is the leader with the motive to escalate the conflict right now, and he appears to be trying to delay negotations by getting a Russian response to his actions. While Ukraine’s recent massive attempted drone attack was unsuccessful, Trump has made clear to the country that Americans have given well over $100 billion in aid that he will not tolerate deliberate efforts to sabotage the peace negotiations. Indeed, while the pathetic legacy media keeps trying to paint Trump as being pro-Putin, the reality is that the current President just wants a peace agreement, and his efforts continue to focus on bringing the current conflict to a close.

Editor’s Note: Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Tuesday afternoon that Ukraine had agreed to a 30-day cease-fire, which would certainly be good news – but as of this update the Russians had not agreed. There are various ways to interpret these events, one of which being that a below-the-belt punch just before agreeing to a cease-fire would be a way to sabotage peace talks while claiming innocence.

Time will tell.
