Democrat Response To Whitmer’s Meeting With Trump Is Another Indication Their Party Is Broken
The Left is hopelessly immersed in groupthink.
While conservatives have always been open to hearing new ideas and debating their opponents, the Democratic party has been increasingly unwilling to even engage with Trump and his supporters since he won the Presidency in 2016. Even though the American people spoke clearly and loudly in November, the majority of the party has tried to eviscerate Democrats like Fetterman and Schumer who have even been willing to work with Republicans. The left even had nothing but vitriol for Gavin Newsom after the California Governor brought Steve Bannon on his show simply to hear his view.
The election is over. Trump won a landslide in the electoral college and the 47th President also won the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes. The public saw 12 years of failed left-wing policies under Biden and Obama, and 4 years of success under Trump, and the country made a decision. The nation completly rejected the entire premise of the message of Democrats and the left that Trump was a threat to Democracy or a fascist. When Trump won in 2024, this win was very different than in 2016, because the country knew exactly what he represented. In 2016 there were significant questions about how Trump would govern, in 2024 the public knew what he and the MAGA movement represented, and the citizens of this country voted for him in an election that represents clear approval of what the President stands for. The people have spoken and the election is over, trying to relitigate the past is not a strategy, these actions are a sign of being in denial.
This is why the bizarre reaction by Democrats to Whitmer going to the Oval Office to meet with the President after saying that she understands what Trump is trying to do with tariffs shows a broken party in denial. Whitmer criticized what she referred to as Trump’s use of wide-ranging tariffs, she didn’t come to Washington and simply bow down to the President, the Michigan governor sought to find common ground with a leader who has a mandate. Whitmer represents the critically important swing state of Michigan that Trump has won twice in the last 3 Presidential election cycles, she is acting in accordance with the wishes of people in her state and representing their interests. The fact that the party which claims to be defending Democracy still wants political leaders to ignore the clear and overwhelming will of the people shows how lost the left is. These radicals are still trying to cancel Trump and his movement, even though MAGA represents more than half the nation.
The left called for Schumer’s head when he wasn’t willing to shut the government down in the Senate and these same extremists are now attacking a Governor that has been a fierce critic of Trump for years simply because she’s willing to meet a President her state voted for not once but twice. Some Democratic insiders anonymously told left-wing media outlet NBC that Whitmer’s Oval Office meeting was a disaster. Part of the message the American people sent in November is that the country wants both parties to work together, simply sitting on the sidelines and criticizing every action Trump takes even when Democrats and the public agree with these decisions is not a strategy, those kinds of actions are petculant and childish.
Being in denial is not a a sign of being mentally healthy. The Democratic party’s largest challenge is that leaders on the left have stopped listening or caring what the public thinks. The American people sided with Trump even though the 47th President was ruthlessly prosecuted, impeached, and even convicted in a sham court case. The country has spoken and elections have consequences. The fact that the core base of the Democratic party continues to try to destroy political leaders who are even willing to meet with Trump to discuss basic common sense issues shows the left remains both broken and stuck in the past.
