Christianity in the News: May 2025

Hello all, I hope everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day weekend.

It’s been almost a year since the last time that I posted an article in the “Christianity in the News” series here on RVIVR. So, I thought now would be a fitting time to restart this series since there has been plenty of interesting Christian-related news this month.

Without further ado, let’s look at some of the major Christian news stories from this month:

#1 Generac allegedly FIRES Christian man for his religious beliefs

Generac is a multi-billion dollar, publicly traded company located in the United States. Generac’s push for DEI in recent years culminated in a viral news story regarding a high-performing employee standing up for his Christian views.

Earlier this month, a Christian man from Wisconsin named Spencer Wimmer filed an EEOC claim against Generac for the company’s alleged discrimination for his religious beliefs. According to Wimmer, his former employer fired him because he was not willing to violate his religious beliefs by not calling his colleagues by their “preferred pronouns”.

Wisconsin Institute for Liberty and Law is helping Wimmer navigate this complex legal situation regarding his termination from Generac. This organization provided a helpful summarization of Wimmer’s position:

Generac’s bias and hostility toward Wimmer’s religious beliefs only continued throughout his unsuccessful pursuit of a religious accommodation. Despite Wimmer’s repeated attempts to engage with the company on an accommodation that would allow Wimmer to maintain his religious convictions while remaining respectful of others, Generac denied Wimmer’s request, deeming his proposal to avoid using employee names and pronouns altogether a violation of company policy.

Throughout the entire ordeal, Generac made no attempt to accommodate Wimmer’s religious beliefs (despite securing a letter from his pastor) and produced no policy specifying how employees must address each other. Moreover, Generac acknowledged that no employee had ever complained about how Wimmer had addressed or communicated with them.

Ultimately, Wimmer was terminated and escorted off company premises just weeks after Generac learned of his religious beliefs. In addition, Wimmer’s personal Bible and other belongings from his office workspace were later returned to him badly damaged.

The Twitter/X video below also provides a brief summary of this situation:

#2: Far-left domestic EXTREMISTS attack Christian worship in Seattle

Over the weekend, a group of peaceful Christians held a public prayer rally in Seattle, Washington. During the prayer rally, a large group of Antifa terrorists and far-left extremists led a violent counter-protest against this prayer rally. In fact, many of the extremists attacked officers from the Seattle Police Department—leading to nearly two dozen arrests.

Reporters on the ground filmed the violent outbursts coming from the Antifa thugs in Seattle:

After this debacle, Seattle’s Mayor released a disturbing statement blaming the peaceful Christians for the outrageous actions from the violent Antifa activists. Many faithful Christians have shared their understandable frustration with the Seattle Mayor for his troubling reaction to the violence coming from Far-left political activists in his city.

#3 Christian man and Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson passes away

Over the weekend, the family of Duck Dynasty star and Christian patriarch Phil Robertson revealed that he passed away after his battle with Alzheimer’s. Late last year, Robertson’s son Jase revealed that his father Phil was struggling with a myriad of serious health issues.

For those who don’t know, Robertson gained widespread fame across the United States after the television channel A&E aired the popular show Duck Dynasty in the 2010s–featuring Robertson’s company Duck Commander.

Besides being a cultural icon, Robertson was quite open about his journey to the Christian faith in his twenties. Known for his devout faith, Robertson unabashedly shared his Christian faith and moral beliefs in a country that has fallen away from those moral foundations in recent decades.

Fox News shared a memorial video recently of his life and legacy–which you can see below:
