Democrats’ Treatment of Senator Fetterman Shows A Nasty Party of Cowards

There is an old saying that with friends like this, who needs enemies? Often the people who know someone the most are the ones who dislike that individual, and when in life like in politics a perceived betrayal occurs, is usually when some of the nastiest retribution results. Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman’s path to politics was anything but normal. The former mayor of Braddock claimed to be motivated to enter politics after his friend passed away and he chose to focus on public service. Fetterman served as both a mayor and then as Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania before being elected to the US Senate in 2022, defeating a fairly weak Republican candidate, Mehmet Oz.

There were many questions about Fetterman’s health even before the Democratic primary for the Senate seat the embattled Senator eventually won. Fetterman had a stroke and also refused to release his medical records before this he was nominated to represent his party in the Senate race, he won primarily because the entire Democratic establishment in Pennyslvania supported him. Fetterman rode a strong showing by Democrats in the midterm elections that was bolstered by the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade in 2021 to victory despite having notable issues with processing and audio during debates and throughout the campaign. Fetterman ran as a progressive, and he won the Democratic primary against a notably more moderate Candidate, former federal prosecutor Conor Lamb.

The same Democratic party that covered up Biden’s severe mental health decline for years and also endorsed Fetterman after he had a stroke is now turning on him for one reason, and one reason only, the Senator has shown a willingness to work with Trump. Fetterman’s issues with the more radical elements of his party started before the 2024 election, he was clearly growing increasingly frustrated with these elements supporting radical and violent foreign interests. When Trump won, Fetterman was one of the first Senators to visit the President at Mar-a-Lago, and the former Mayor and progressive also stated that he was impressed with Trump’s strong support in his home state of Pennsylvania.

The left has gotten the long knives out for Fetterman since his recent overtures toward the President. First, an obvious hit piece in the Atlantic came out, citing the Senator’s mental struggles from months prior. Second, many Democrats such as Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois also began to make statements that Fetterman was isolated and alienated from the Democratic Party. This is the kind of nasty and divisiveness of the left that the country rejected. While Fetterman did show signs of having significant mental issues during the 2022 campaign, his speech has been much better recently, the claims that he is unfit to serve now, but he was fit to serve 3 years ago, are absurd. Trying to destroy politicians simply because that individual is willing to work with the President of the United States when Fetterman represents a state Trump won easily, is a tactic of political intimidation. These disgusting actions were also seen when Governor Whitmer recently met with the president in the White House as well. Whitmer also represents a state that Trump has won twice.

There have been a number of high-profile Republicans that dislike Trump, with some, such as former Senator Romney and current Senator Lisa Murkowski, voting for his removal during the sham impeachment hearings held against the President in his first term. The Republicans did not put out hit pieces against these individuals or attack these individuals, instead, conservatives focused on getting candidates elected who support the MAGA agenda. A good example of this process working is when Republicans easily took Liz Cheney’s seat back. Indeed, despite claims from the left that conservatives are afraid to oppose the President, the real fear is for Democrats who are willing to work with Trump. One of the main reasons why the left has such a pathetic group of leaders is the radicals in the party continue to attack and undermine moderates willing to work with Trump and Republicans. The far left continues to hold the Democratic party hostage, and until that fact changes, the Democrats will continue to struggle.
