Release Of Hur Tape Shows the Need For Hearings Into One Of US History’s Biggest Cover-Ups

The balance between looking back and focusing on the future is always a delicate walk in politics. Elections are about what people want moving forward, but sometimes rectifying past injustice is necessary for a nation to move past a set of events. President Trump has done an excellent job of not dwelling on the past, as he focuses on cleaning up the mess that the previous administration left on the border, with the economy, and in foreign policy. Trump rarely brings up the many past injustices that occurred to him both as President and as a private citizen, and he has been very optimistic in both his tone and language.

The Republican party won in 2024 in significant part because the country both rejected the nasty and divisive policies of the left and also because of Trump and MAGA’s vision for the country. Conservatives do not want to be seen as focusing on every last scandal of the Biden administration, the country wants the Republican party to solve the many issues the country faces. Still, America deserves answers. Who actually was running the country when Biden was in power, particularly during his last 2 years when he was unable to do even basic interviews or make foreign policy trips? The citizens of this country deserve to know if Biden was even aware of whether or not the executive orders and legislation signed in his name were actions taken with his knowledge and approval.

While any objective observer knew the President was unfit for office, the recent release of the Hur tape shows that the cover-up of Biden’s mental state is one of the largest scandals in US history. The audio, which was concealed by the previous corrupt Justice Department led by disgraced Attorney General Merrick Garland, shows Biden could not even remember basic information, such as when his son passed away, or all the dates he served as Vice President. This recent information comes out just a week after Democrats admitted that Biden did not even recognize George Clooney at the fundraiser held just months before the 46th President was supposed to be on the ballot for reelection. Speaker Mike Johnson also disclosed a story where he talked about an executive order with Biden and the former President was unaware that he had ever signed such an action. Trump has also revealed that autopen was used to sign many executive orders and pardons that had Biden’s name on them.

Republicans should hold hearings for two completely separate reasons. First, the American people are owed an explanation over who was running the country and making decisions on a day-to-day basis. Second, this public scrutiny will serve as an important deterrent to future cover-ups even if criminal referrals are not made. The people who knowingly and willingly concealed from the public who was making decisions on the American people’s behalf should be exposed, and future administrations should be put on notice, there will be consequences for violating the public trust that comes with serving in the White House. If no congressional hearings are held, the individuals who covered up Biden’s mental health will face no legal or other consequences, and that will embolden future White Houses to take similar actions.

The Republicans in the House should make clear that hearings are simply about getting the country answers, not conducting the kind of political witchhunt we saw Democrats engage in repeatedly during Trump’s first administration. This public forum should also be key to finding out if Biden was actually aware of and if he approved of the many executive orders and pardons signed in his name with auto pen. The scandal that occurred at least in the final 2 years of Biden’s administration is too big for conservatives to overlook, a more complete and thorough investigation is needed.
