Why Illegal Immigration Remains a More Important Issue For Trump than the Economy
The first statement that now President Trump made when he famously came down the escalator in 2015 to announce his run for the Presidency was not on the economy or on foreign policy, the 47th President talked about the need to secure the border. That was not a coincidence. There are no issues that have motivated the base of the Republican party more over the last decade than that of illegal immigration. The open border policy supported by both RINOs and Liberals has been disastrous for the country, and when Biden opened the border after 2020, the power of this issue only became magnified.
The Democratic party has an approval rating of 30 percent for many reasons, but the main one is that the left does not value or prioritize the middle and working-class of America. The Democrats support high taxes, an open border, and getting rid of the fossil fuel industry, which directly and indirectly employs millions of Americans, the left is effectively waging war on the working class while Trump tries to rebuild the middle class. The left is obsessed with meaningless points about how prices haven’t dropped significantly in Trump’s first 3 months in office, the Democrats still don’t understand the main reason why Trump and the Republican party won so easily in 2024.
Trump was a much more successful President than Biden or Obama were, and that fact is obviously an important part of why the 47th President returned to power in November, but there is another more powerful reason the right took back control of the country in the last election. Republicans are actually representing and fighting for middle and working-class people, the right is prioritizing the issues that most people in the nation care most about. Very few middle-class families care about climate change, the issue the left made these individuals number one priority with the absurdly named Inflation Reduction Act that Biden signed in 2022.
This is why illegal immigration is still by far the most powerful issue for Trump and the Republican base. Every time the Democrats advocate and fight for illegal immigrants this reminds the American people that these left-wing radicals care more about people who are not US citizens than the people of this nation. The opposite is true too. Every time Trump talks about the need to secure the border and get illegal immigration under control, his language shows that he is prioritizing the needs of middle and working-class families. The issue of illegal immigration reveals the priorities of both parties more than any other debate right now.
When Democrats broke into a detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, to advocate for people being held there, some of whom were rapists and murders, and when the left traveled to El Salvador to fight for the release of a known MS-13 gang member and wife beater, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the misplaced priorities of the Democratic Party are revealed. The left is fighting far harder for Garcia than most working and middle-class families, the Democrats are not listening to or representing the working class of the country who used to support the party. President Trump won the election in 2024 for many reasons, but by far the most important basis for his and the Republican takeover in 2024 was that MAGA has won over the middle and working-class of this country. There is no stronger issue showing the out-of-touch priorities of today’s pathetic Democratic party than that of illegal immigration.
