Gavin Newsom Stands Down as Trump Again Exposes the Democrats’ Empty Rhetoric
The easy part of politics is speaking. Any politician can talk a good game, but actions during difficult and controversial times are a different animal.
When President Trump assumed office, there were two very different approaches taken by Democrats in most blue and red states. Leaders such as Governor Whitmer of Michigan and Senator Fetterman of Pennsylvania have reached out to Trump since his resounding victory in November, while more left-wing Democrats such as Governor Newsom of California and Governor Pritzker in Illinois spoke loudly about opposing and fighting the 47th President’s popular agenda.
Newsom called an absurd special legislative session in California that supposedly was to protect the rights of individuals in a state where his record, particularly during the COVID pandemic, on civil rights might be the worst in the country.
Trump received a mandate in November when he won the popular vote and also achieved an electoral landslide against the failed Vice President Kamala Harris. This past weekend, the President took decisive action in Los Angeles to apprehend illegal immigrants, many of whom were dangerous and violent individuals. This was Newsom’s big test. The liberal governor who clearly has presidential ambitions had talked tough about opposing Trump for some time, and now ICE was engaged in large-scale raids in his state. In this key moment Newsom folded and showed his and the rhetoric of the left is as empty as their words are reckless.
The California governor stated he would sue the federal government over Trump’s decision to take control of the national guard and he also made an absurd comment that White House Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations Tom Homan could arrest him. But Newsom’s words were subdued, and he took no substantive or real action. Newsom did not, as Governor Pritzker had in Illinois, call for California residents to resist Trump, and he didn’t even travel to LA County either. The LA police, who declared the violent riots against ICE an unlawful assembly, were clearly siding with the 47th President as well. Trump received the endorsement of nearly every major fraternal police organization in 2024 yet again.
Newsom didn’t even formally announce any lawsuits against the Federal Government, he simply stated that the state was planning to sue Trump, and he stood down. The reason Newsom and left-wing leaders across the US are mysteriously quiet in the midst of one of the larger-scale ICE operations in the agency’s history is for 2 reasons. Trump is right and he has the support of the American people. The reality is that the President is actually doing Newsom and the residents of California a favor, by removing many violent criminals that these Democrats could not politically get rid of. Trump is acting lawfully and in accord with the wishes of Americans, he’s enforcing the law and taking the kind of necessary action that is needed. The Democrats have realized after the party’s absurd defense of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a known gang member and wife-beater, that fighting Trump on illegal immigration is a lost political battle.
The left has benefitted politically from illegal immigration for decades in multiple ways, with this failing party estimated to have nearly 20 additional seats in the House of Representatives since illegals are counted in the census when determining the number of representatives in the House. The left opposes a citizenship question on the census for good reason. The Democrats also opened the border during the failed and disgusting Biden administration because this failing party knew Trump had the votes in the critical swing states in the Midwest. Indeed, despite absurd statements about Trump and MAGA being xenophobic, the supposed debate around illegal immigration was really always about political power, and the events that unfolded over this weekend again showed how empty the left’s baseless rhetoric is.
