As A League, The WNBA Is “Unbeweavable”

I have run the whole gamut of interest and emotion concerning the WNBA. First, I never gave a damn about the league. Every highlight I saw was clips of bad shooting and inadequate play. Then, like many people, I took notice of this young lady playing college ball for Iowa; her name was Caitlin Clark, and she was a true shining star.

Clark was sinking three-pointers from almost half-court, and her passing was pinpoint. It was obvious that she was going to be the number one pick in the WNBA draft. She was indeed selected first by the Indiana Fever, and many, including myself, had their interest piqued about Caitlin and the league.

The league, though, wasn’t ready for Clark’s arrival. Even though she brought unprecedented attention to the league, resulting in private flights for all teams, sold-out arenas wherever she played, and a significant increase in television revenue, the woke political cesspool of a league turned its back on the new star.

Clark was mugged in virtually every game she played in. There were hard fouls during play, and even more egregious fouls in many cases after play ended. Meanwhile, the league and the officials ignored the beating she was taking, and in most cases, no fouls were even called.

Clark is a white straight girl in a predominantly black league that is filled with lesbian players, and it became apparent that Cathy Englebert, the do-nothing cardboard cutout of a commissioner, was going to allow the players to dispense undeserved justice, apparently so she would not rock the black/LGBTQ boat.

But as discontentment increased and Clark sustained an injury, one referee who failed to call four fouls committed against Clark on one possession unceremoniously disappeared. Attendance began to drop incrementally, and still, Englebert only offered excuses, saying idiotic things like “all fans complain about referees.”

Now, Clark has been sidelined with her second injury. She was voted captain of one all-star team but couldn’t play because she was injured. Clark, who has slowly been half beaten into submission, has tried to fit in by making semi-woke statements herself; she even joined in when every player on both teams wore ridiculous black T-shirts with the words “Pay Us What You Owe Us” in large white letters.

The T-shirts were the ultimate sign of blind narcissism and entitlement. The WNBA, since its inception, has been the equivalent of flushing money down the toilet. The league has lost millions of dollars every year, and despite revenue increases in 2024, the losses are projected to hit $40 million.

With Clark out, another beautiful white player has been garnering a lot of attention. Sophie Cunningham has drawn the ire of the ignorant and jealous players in the league. She has been victimized by several vicious fouls that, not surprisingly, were not called.  This led her to express her disgust with the referees on social media. However, instead of taking the right action, Engelbert and the league fined Cunningham $500.

By this time, my interest in the league was once again almost non-existent. The league has beaten its up-and-coming star to a pulp, even though she won’t say so in an attempt to defend the stupidity. The officiating has gotten progressively worse, and in a game this week, standards dropped to an unprecedented low.

In a game between the Washington Mystics and Phoenix Mercury, a black player, Kahleah Copper, on the Phoenix team, had her “weave” pulled off by one of her own players, Jade Melbourne, who was trying to beat a screen.

I only mentioned Copper’s race because of the ridiculous way the two announcers, Meghan McPeak and Christy Winters Scott, who are both also black, referred to the stoppage as a “malfunction,” as if mentioning Copper losing her weave was totally taboo.

A player can lose a shoe and play continues, but losing a hair weave means we shut down the game until the hair piece is corrected. For any other league, this would be idiocy on a different scale, but for the WNBA, this is right on par.

Still, that wasn’t bad enough. The league then hit rock bottom when some of the snowflake Phoenix players complained that after the hair “malfunction,” a fan laughed and made fun of it. They complained to security, and the fan was thrown out.

Incredibly, this clown show of a league manages to find new ways to embarrass itself. Throwing a fan out for making jokes about a player losing a hairpiece demonstrates incredible disrespect for the very people who support their league.

I feel sorry for Caitlin, who entered into such a dysfunctional rat trap. Englebert should have been fired long ago. She is weak and has squandered the league’s best chance to turn itself around.

In the future, if you’re at a game where someone loses their hair weave, disguise yourself as an empty seat – they’ll never find you.
