“Eggcellent” News!

After Joe Biden’s cabal slaughtered an estimated 108 million chickens under the guise of preventing the spread of bird flu, egg prices skyrocketed. The MSM and the Department of Agriculture, who were involved in the slaughter, are quick to point out that the culling of the infected chickens is a standard procedure. That part is true; however, the methods used by the Biden administration were a drastic overkill, which some believe was a deliberate act to put the incoming Trump administration at a disadvantage.

Trump was sworn into office on January 20th, and on February 3rd, Waffle House Restaurants, which serves about 272 million eggs in a typical year, announced a 50-cent surcharge per egg on all orders. The Georgia-based chain operates more than 2,000 restaurants, and its 24-hour diners are so ubiquitous in the Southeast that FEMA uses an informal “Waffle House Index” to measure hurricane damage.

Shortly thereafter, Denny’s, another very popular breakfast and lunch chain, followed suit with their own 50-cent egg surcharge. Keep in mind that Trump was only sworn into office just two weeks before the Waffle House decision. Rational people would rightly question the timing of these restaurants’ decision-making. Egg prices had been skyrocketing since 2021, but conveniently, only after Trump took office did the restaurants make these changes.

Naturally, the liberal domino effect took place as the MSM piled on in lockstep, whining that Trump promised to lower egg prices and it hadn’t happened. Ignorantly and deliberately ignoring the fact that he had only been in office for less than a month, while Biden had done nothing but exacerbate the issue for three years. The same people who downplayed the sky-high inflation under the Biden administration suddenly couldn’t stop talking about the price of eggs as soon as President Donald Trump was sworn into office.

That’s what makes this redemption so sweet. Despite the blathering of Democrats and the MSM, the price of eggs began to retreat, and slightly longer than four months after taking office, Trump’s policies resulted in Waffle House rescinding the surcharge.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins provided this update:

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins today provided an update on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s comprehensive, five-pronged strategy announced in February to combat Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). After reaching a record high due to the Biden Administration’s lack of action, wholesale egg prices have now dropped 64 percent, with retail prices falling 27 percent from their peak earlier this year. We must remain diligent, and egg farmers and producers can continue to utilize USDA resources to conduct biosecurity assessments before the Fall.

“When President Trump entered office, the cost of eggs was at a record high, seriously denting consumers’ wallets after years of awful inflation. On my first day as Secretary, we got to work to implement a five-pronged strategy to improve biosecurity on the farm and lower egg prices on grocery store shelves. The plan has worked, and families are seeing relief with egg prices driving food deflation in the April Consumer Price Index. While we are proud that over 900 biosecurity assessments have been conducted to date, resources remain available, and we are urging poultry farmers of all sizes to get your assessments done today before a potentially challenging fall.”

The NPR also reported on the improving egg supply:

…The American Egg Board, which represents farmers, notes that rebuilding the nation’s egg supply will take time. As of June 1, there were about 285 million egg-laying hens in the country. That’s down more than 6 percent from a year ago, and down nearly 13 percent from early 2022, before the avian flu outbreak began.

“The good news for egg lovers is that ongoing recovery efforts by egg farmers, support from USDA, and a decrease in new cases of bird flu have provided stability in both egg prices and supply. Further, demand for eggs typically falls after Easter and into the summer months, which has made more eggs available at retail and grocery stores.”

In a post on X yesterday, Waffle House said the surcharge was dropped a month ago on June 2, “Egg-cellent news…as of June 2, the egg surcharge is officially off the menu. Thanks for understanding!”

Yesterday, I purchased a dozen large eggs for $2.72.

The MSM and Democrats knew that what Biden’s administration was doing on almost every front was not only wrong but also un-American. They lied for that inept administration and continue to blame Trump for everything.

Now, it’s obvious that they got caught “With Egg On Their Face.”
