How Do You Put Handcuffs on a Snake? An Indictment of James Comey
Former FBI Director James Comey is turning himself in this morning after being charged Thursday by the Justice Department with perjury and obstruction of justice. The question I have is: “How do you put handcuffs on a snake?”
What makes this corrupter of the FBI particularly odious is he’s a snake convinced he is a noble steed. Doubt me? Go back and watch his 2016 press conference where he personally absolved Hillary Clinton of her criminal sins—even though that wasn’t his job. Even though Hillary Clinton handled the nation’s most crucial secrets as carelessly as Bill Clinton handled his marriage vows.
Then watch how he reopened the investigation shortly before the election because Hillary Clinton’s emails had been found on Anthony Weiner’s computer—without bothering to tell the American people that his FBI had known about it for a month but tried (and failed) to keep it secret until after the election. Then watch how Comey re-closed the investigation a couple of days later, insisting the FBI had done a thorough, painstaking job going through the tens of thousands of emails—a claim that held as much water as a spaghetti strainer.
And Comey was just getting started. For the “Russia, Russia, Russia” effort to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power and destroy Donald Trump was soon afoot.
Let’s stop calling the Trump-Russia operation a hoax. Jussie Smollett pretending to be attacked by MAGA was a hoax. Milli Vanilli pretending to sing was a hoax. The Jets calling themselves an NFL team is a hoax. Comey was a central player in a black op against the incoming president of the United States.
Thanks to the statute of limitations, Comey is not being charged for those sinister efforts to kneecap the will of the American people. He’s being charged with lying to Congress about those efforts in September 2020 and obstructing the congressional investigation into the black op.
What precisely Comey did to warrant his indictment is for the prosecutors and (hopefully) a fair jury in Northern Virginia to sort out. We’ll hear more about it today. We’re talking about who this man is. A man who for years has painted himself as a hero, a shining symbol of justice, America’s own Dudley Do-Right.
Wrong. Doing very, very much wrong.
On Jan. 6, 2021, a day after the infamous Oval Office meeting where President Barack Obama and his top officials, including Comey, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and CIA Director John Brennan, plotted how to use the Russia investigation against Trump, Comey went to Trump Tower to tell the president-elect about the Steele dossier. Actually, he only told Trump about the salacious details of the dossier. What America’s top cop did not do is tell Trump that the dossier, it had been determined, was donkey dung that Clinton’s camp had manufactured and disseminated. That fact that would have made the Steele dossier—and “Trump-Russia Collusion”—a one-day story at best.
The reality is, the only reason it became a story is because by the time Comey was back in his limo, the meeting had been leaked to CNN, giving them the “hook” they had been looking for to run with the Steele dossier story. That’s who Comey is.
In that moment alone, he betrayed his office and the American people.
Comey’s not a saint. He’s a saboteur.
Comey admitted in his 2020 Senate hearing that he had, via a friend, leaked to The New York Times a memo he’d written to Trump. The goal? To pressure the creation of a special counsel to investigate Trump-Russia collusion—even though he knew it was bogus. His mentor Robert Mueller became special counsel, even though, as the New York Post reported, Mueller was likely already becoming mentally incapacitated. This Comey-fueled “Mueller” investigation would hamper Trump’s ability to conduct the nation’s business for over two years. That’s who Comey is.
He is someone who was oh, so very proud of how he violated standard practice and used the chaos of a new, incoming administration to set up a perjury trap for Gen. Michael Flynn, someone who actually is an American hero.
He is someone who could spend years investigating mobsters in Boston and New York and then pretend he doesn’t know that the “8647” he “found” on a beach and posted for the world of crazies to see looks like a call for a hit on the 47th president.
Whether he ends up convicted or not, Comey has done irreparable damage to the credibility of the FBI. He turned the finest investigative body on the planet into a perverted fiefdom for his political peccadillos and personal aggrandizing. Cleaning up around Chernobyl was an easier task than cleaning up after Comey. Current FBI Director Kash Patel not only needs our support, he needs a hazmat suit.
