If American Statues Can Be Removed, So Can Muslim Street Signs
If you’re a Christian American living in Muslim infested Dearborn, Michigan, you are not welcome there if you have an opinion. If you speak out, you get ridiculed and called an Islamophobe and a bigot. In fact, if you are a free-thinking Christian American, you are so unwelcome in Dearborn, Michigan, they will have a parade celebrating the fact that you are leaving the city, so says the Muslim mayor of the city, Abdullah Hammoud.
Last week, at a Dearborn City Council Meeting, the self-righteous mayor, “Haboob,” attacked longtime resident Edward “Ted” Barham for objecting to Wayne County’s decision to install street signs at two intersections on Warren Avenue honoring Osama Siblani.
Barnham told the group:
“He’s a promoter of Hezbollah and Hamas. He talks about how the blood of the martyrs irrigates the land of Palestine … others will fight with planes, drones, and rockets.”
Barham compared the honor to naming a road “Hezbollah Street” or “Hamas Street,” describing it as provocative. He emphasized that, as a Christian, his aim was to promote peace. He concluded his remarks by quoting scripture: “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
Immediately, several council members quickly jumped in to protect any snowflake Muslims in the room. They cautioned Barham against what they interpreted as “personal attacks.” They also pointed out that the City of Dearborn did not make the decision; Wayne County Executive Warren Evans and the county commission approved the designation.
I’m sure that Barham didn’t care who was responsible for approving and installing the signs. He rightly insisted that the matter still concerned Dearborn residents, because the signs are in their community. However, that bit of common sense triggered Mayor “Haboob,” who then proceeded to offend many in attendance with unbelievably fascist remarks.
“The best suggestion I have for you is to not drive on Warren Avenue or to close your eyes while you’re doing it. His name is up there, and I spoke at a ceremony celebrating it because he’s done a lot for this community.”
Still, “Haboob” wasn’t finished.
“You are a bigot, and you are racist, and you’re an Islamophobe. Although you live here, I want you to know as mayor, you are not welcome here. And the day you move out of the city will be the day that I launch a parade celebrating the fact that you moved out.”
WTF? Who the hell elected this egotistical lunatic? If statues of Americans can be torn down with total disregard for their accomplishments because they owned slaves in an entirely different era, then these signs can be removed because Siblani has committed his atrocities in current times.
He has openly rejected the classification of Hamas as a terrorist organization, referring to both Hamas and Hezbollah as “resistance” movements. In his speeches, he has praised “martyrs” and encouraged people to fight using “stones, guns, planes, drones, and rockets.” Jewish groups, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), have long accused him of expressing sympathy for organizations that the U.S. government designates as terrorist groups.
Americans don’t care that he founded The Arab American News in 1984, or that the paper is published in Arabic and English, or that it is one of the most widely circulated Arab American publications in the country. His sympathy for organizations the U.S. government designates as terrorist groups outweighs his publication accomplishments.
Dearborn has the highest population of Muslims in America. That has caused much debate over its cultural and political identity. For many residents, “Habboob’s” ignorant display at City Hall begged the question of whether elected officials are willing to listen to all voices or only those they choose to celebrate.
In my humble opinion, there is no longer a question. Mayor “Haboob” answered that with his obnoxious display of hatred against a long-time city resident.
Dearborn definitely has both a cultural and a political problem. Barham raised legitimate concerns about a terrorist sympathizer being honored with street signs, and “Haboob” not only dismissed those concerns, but he also attacked Barham for bringing up the truth.
Dearborn, Michigan, is still located within the United States of America; someone needs to remind “Haboob” of that fact – Loudly.
