State Rep Wants Roadways Safe From Illegals
Republican Congresswoman Mary Miller, a strong critic of Governor J.B. Pritzker from Illinois, is set to introduce legislation aimed at limiting the efforts of sanctuary states and cities. She argues that these places are “gambling with American lives” by endorsing and harboring illegal aliens.
When we think about the damage that allowing illegals into our country causes, our first thoughts are usually about crime and the economy. The danger they pose on our roadways isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Unfortunately, recent events have brought that truth to the forefront.
In a conversation with Fox News Digital regarding upcoming legislation, Rep. Miller’s office revealed that the bill is tentatively titled the SAFE Driving Laws Act. This proposed legislation seeks to challenge the practices of nearly twenty states that pose “an extreme level of risk for everyone on the road” by permitting illegal aliens to obtain both individual and commercial driver’s licenses.
Miller did not hold back, even condemning the politicians within her own state.
“Sanctuary states like Illinois are gambling with American lives by handing out driver’s licenses and commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) to illegal aliens.”
According to Representative Miller’s office, if the legislation passes, the SAFE Driving Laws Act would reduce funding by 50 percent under the National Highway Performance and Surface Transportation Block Grant programs for all states that are not in compliance by October 2026.
The proposed legislation is born out of tragedy. An Illinois father, grieving the loss of his daughter, blames Governor JB Pritzker’s migrant policies for her death, stating they led to devastating consequences.
Joe Abraham told “Fox & Friends” about the pain of losing his 20-year-old daughter, Katie.
“She got death; I got a life-sentence.”
Abraham criticized Governor Pritzker for his silence regarding the case, highlighting that his family is calling for stronger action from state leaders. He described Pritzker’s response as “defeating.”
According to Fox News, in January, Katie Abraham and a friend were waiting at a stoplight when their car was struck at high speed by a Guatemalan man who was allegedly in the United States illegally. Authorities reported that he was suspected of drunk driving. Katie died at the scene, and her friend later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
In reply, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that it is increasing arrests of criminal migrants in Illinois, with federal officials stating that these raids are being conducted in memory of Katie.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said in a statement:
“Every day, the men and women of ICE and the other federal partners that are with us in Chicago, we honor Katie by going out there and getting these criminal aliens off the street.”
The Department of Homeland Security stated on X that its operations in Illinois are connected to the state’s sanctuary policies, claiming that these policies allow criminal migrants to move freely in the community. In response, fat ass, do nothing, Governor Pritzker denied the allegations, accusing federal authorities of using the operations to create fear among residents rather than to reduce crime.
He posted on X:
“Once again, this isn’t about fighting crime. That requires support and coordination — yet we’ve experienced nothing like that over the past several weeks. Instead of taking steps to work with us on public safety, the Trump Administration is focused on scaring Illinoisians.”
Right, keeping Americans safe is a Trump scare tactic.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson argued that the city received “no notice of any enhanced immigration action by the Trump administration” and expressed his opposition to ICE’s actions due to concerns about due process. He also raised concerns about ICE’s history, saying the agency in the past wrongfully detained American citizens and violated their rights.
Abraham dismissed those arguments, stating that a proper immigration system could have filtered out the migrant who killed his daughter, potentially saving her life.
Lyons stated that ICE is dedicated to carrying out operations in Chicago and throughout the country.
“We are out there arresting criminal aliens, known suspected terrorists, and gang members that are ruining our community. The men and women of ICE are going to stay in Chicago, and we’re going to stay at all the major cities across the United States to ensure that we remove this public safety threat from our neighborhoods.”
In another more publicized case, Harjinder Singh, another illegal alien, is currently facing charges of vehicular homicide after killing three people by making an unlawful U-turn in August while driving on the Florida Turnpike in Fort Pierce.
After an examination conducted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, it was determined that Singh could only identify one out of four road signs presented to him. Additionally, he correctly answered only two out of twelve questions designed to assess his understanding of the English language.
Singh obtained his CDL in California, so it’s no surprise that Gavin Newsom is opposed to the bill. Passing the legislation makes too much sense, so naturally, Newsom disagrees with it.
In a statement from Newsom’s office regarding the legislation, spokesperson Diana Crofts-Pelayo characterized the proposed law as “a witch hunt based on lies against states that follow federal law.”
I wonder if she made that statement with a straight face. California breaks every immigration law possible. The real reason Newsome hates the idea of keeping America’s roads safe is money. Miller’s office estimates that some states choosing to remain out of compliance could lose millions, and in some cases, billions, in funding. For example, California could lose nearly $2 billion if the legislation is passed.
In addition to the financial penalties described in Miller’s proposed bill, the SAFE Driving Laws Act would implement measures to penalize states that maintain policies or laws preventing state and local governments from collecting and sharing information related to immigration enforcement efforts with Homeland Security.
Politicians like Pritzker, Johnson, and Newsom take a bad problem and make it worse. There is no reason to protect the status of anyone here illegally. All they are doing is trying to justify their own spineless agenda, and by doing so, they expose Americans to increased crime, an increased financial burden, and even dangerous roadways.
