City Once Again Ties Police Hands, Places Citizens In Danger
False bigotry against real bigotry only protects bigotry. If minorities commit crimes at a higher rate than whites, then their arrest rates will be higher. That is not racism or bigotry; that is reality.
According to LAPD data from 2019 to 2022, Black and Latino individuals represented over two-thirds (78.26 percent) of all arrests in Los Angeles, despite making up only 56 percent of the county’s population. Specifically, Latinos, who constitute 48 percent of the population, accounted for 51 percent of the arrests, while Black residents, who make up 8 percent of the population, represented 27 percent of the arrests. Additionally, Black and Latino youth comprise 65 percent of the county’s youth population, yet they make up nearly all incarcerated youth.
When arrests are justified, no crime has been committed by those making the arrest. In the vast majority of cases, Innocent people are not arrested. In fact, future crimes, some of a more violent nature than the original crime, may very well be averted.
How many times do we see cases where people have been arrested 20, 30, sometimes even 40 times or more, before they finally commit a crime so atrocious that even a liberal judge canโt find a reason to turn them loose?
Los Angeles liberals think that arresting criminals of color is bad business. It doesnโt jive with their agenda. Right and wrong are meaningless. It throws their quotas off. In their delusion of equality, even guilt and innocence must suffer to preserve the lie they are desperate to sell.
Los Angeles lawmakers instructed police to stop pulling drivers over for minor infractions, citing concerns about its impact on Black and Brown communities.
On May 6, the city council voted unanimously to recommend banning “pretextual” traffic stops for issues such as broken taillights. The decision now awaits consideration by the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners, as indicated by city records and local media coverage. This vote followed a report from the board on March 3, which found that the vast majority of individuals stopped since 2022 were Black or Hispanic.
Legislators confirmed that officers may still conduct pretextual stops for traffic violations that threaten public safety and for reasonable and articulable suspicion of criminal activity.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Democratic Councilmember Imelda Padilla said after the May 6 vote, โBoard of Police Commissioners: Get this done; weโre watching. This is what this generation wants.โ
According to the Times, the current policy mandates that LAPD officers must provide reasons for suspecting a more serious crime when stopping someone for a minor violation, all while their body cameras record the interaction. According to the commissioners’ March report, the LAPD’s pretextual stops most commonly involve issues with incorrect license plates.
Activist groups, including Black Lives Matter Los Angeles and Catalyst California, celebrated the May 6 vote in a joint Instagram post.
โThis would mean it is no longer legal for LAPD to pull us over for driving while Black under the vague cover of minor infractions and limits their ability to search us. Although a long time coming, this is not the end โ we must get this through the final hurdle of LAPD police commission and ensure its full implementation.โ
Catalyst California, whoever the hell they are, released a report in April that identified “racial disparities” in these stops.
โPretextual stops inflict mental and emotional trauma, extract wealth through ticket fees and fines, and all too often result in physical harm through uses of force. These stops also have little to no bearing on traffic safety outcomes.โ
Really, mental and emotional trauma? Look, many of these people who are pulled over are overly focused on their illegal activities, and because of that, they allow everyday things to slip through the cracks.
Expired license plates, cracked windshields, broken taillights, no brake lights, etc., are things most people who arenโt focused on other things take care of. However, the city of Los Angeles thinks that only white people should be pulled over when police spot these things. They want everyone to believe that minorities should be given a mulligan because if they are pulled over and a more serious crime is uncovered, somehow that fact should be ignored.
It is unsaid by these Los Angeles bigots, but what they want is more white arrests while minority crimes are ignored, so the reported numbers appear to be more even.
These are the distortions the left wants everyone to believe. Total untruths for the sake of an equality that doesnโt exist.
Congratulations, Los Angeles, you just took another step deeper into the abyss, but donโt worry, the manufactured numbers will disguise the hole you fell into.
