The Dirty Little Secret Public School Principals Don’t Want You to Know
Former and current teachers tell me the dirty little secret of public schools is that school administrators don’t want to enforce discipline because the more discipline reports filed, the less funding a school gets from the state and federal governments.
Administrators also don’t want to do the paperwork that goes with enforcing discipline because it’s rather lengthy.

Those teachers also told me that public school administrators are terrified of enforcing discipline against minority students for fear that the federal government will come after them with civil rights lawsuits if too many minorities get discipline when compared to white students.
The result: Kids who want to learn can’t learn because of a disruptive school environment, while students who need discipline don’t get it when they need it and are more likely to end up in trouble with the law as adults.
This is worthy of a book. And, yes, with what little free time I have, I intend to write it.
When time permits — and it’s not on anywhere near the consistent basis I wish it was — I’m interviewing people. Among them: students, teachers, and even a print journalist who (metaphorically) had a gun put to her head and was told not to write about this problem — or else she’d lose her job. And it had more to do with her paper’s advertising revenue concerns than it had to do with looking out for the community’s best interests.
I even interviewed a parent whose child was relentlessly bullied in public school. Her and her husband’s relentless attempts to get the public school district to address the problem were futile.
The child ended up killing himself.

Ever since I announced this book, I have people coming out in droves wanting to talk. The people who have talked to me so far seem highly credible.
The next phase is to start calling elected officials who serve on K-12 education committees and then bureaucrats at state boards of education and more or less ask “What the hell?”
If no one else is gonna write this book….it may as well be me.
Wish me luck.
