As crime surges, Chicago mayor Lightfoot asks for a pay raise

If there has been one especially horrific example of how to not govern a city over the past century or so, Chicago’s Lori Lightfoot is it. But according to her, she deserves a raise.ย

On Wednesday, Lightfoot proposed a city ordinance giving the office an annual inflation raise to be capped at 5%, effective immediately.

A salary increase. For leading the city’s resurgence as one of the nation’s most deadliest.

According to multiple sources, violent crime in Chicago is up 37% since 2021. The number of motor vehicle thefts is up 74% this year compared to the same period a year ago. And as far as the murder rate, not a weekend passes these days without a body count reaching double-digits.

But clearly she deserves a raise.

Wirepoints, an independent, non-profit think tank, provided more specific details. Chicagoโ€™s homicide rate in 2022 so far is 18.4 per 100,000 residents. Thatโ€™s five times higher than New York at 3.6 per 100,000 and 2.5 times higher than 7.5 per 100,000 in Los Angeles.

Facts don’t matter though, according to Madam Mayor. The mere mention of the city’s myriad issues under her “leadership” leads to cries of racism against her by those having the gall to call her out.

After taking office in 2019, It took less than two years for Lightfoot’s disapproval rating to reach 84%, according to a poll of residents taken by the city’s own Crain’s Chicago Business journal. Her disapproval rating has only gotten worse since that poll in 2021 and is now surging close to 90%.

But clearly she deserves a raise.

Many of the city’s major employers have also gotten tired of the violence and rampant homelessness and have packed up and left for less bloody pastures. Just a few weeks ago, industry giant Tyson Foods became the most recent when it announced its relocation to Arkansas.

But clearly she deserves a raise.

The only thing more shocking about Lightfoot truly believing this ridiculous notion is that roughly 15% of the city’s residents say they actually approve of the job she’s doing.

I’m guessing Lightfoot must come from a very large and very dysfunctional family.

Clearly she deserves a raise.
