Here Is The Surest Sign Yet That Ron DeSantis Is Running For President

While most of the country has been absorbed by the news of former President Donald Trump’s indictment on unknown charges by a Manhattan grand jury, one of his potential rivals has taken another step to enter the race against him.

Currently, Florida has a “resign to run” law in place that requires a statewide office holder to resign from their current position in order to run for another office. The purpose of the law is to encourage Florida office holders to serve the entirety of the term they were elected to serve.

That law has been seen as the biggest roadblock to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis entering the 2024 presidential race. Well, yesterday legislation was filed in the Florida legislature to remove that barrier.

The law would go into effect, if passed, on July 1, 2023. It seems like that it would be pretty late for DeSantis to enter the race. Before then, DeSantis would have to continue his “shadow campaign” where he goes around the country to ostensibly talk about his book.

As for whether or not the law will be repealed, my guess is that it will be unless there is a public outcry in Florida towards keeping the law. Such an outcry would surely be manufactured by the Trump campaign and they would be fools to not do such a thing. If there is an opportunity to keep DeSantis out of the race, they would be wise to take the opportunity to do so.

In the unlikely event that this is law is not passed, DeSantis has a choice to make. He clearly wants to run for president and this is probably his best opportunity to do so. Does he want to resign and risk everything or does he want to pass on this election?
