New York City Wants You To Go Vegan To Fight Climate Change
New York City is launching a new push to get the city to go vegan. The city has unveiled a new plan to track household food consumption and its effect on the climate.
The city, which has apparently solved every other problem that it faces, is also calling on the cityโs agencies to reduce their food emissions by 33%. The main culprit in the eyes of the city is meat and dairy products.
From Gothamist:
Mayor Eric Adams announced the plan on Monday along with the Mayorโs Office of Climate & Environmental Justice as part of the city’s ongoing pledge to reduce the impact of climate change. At the same event, the Mayor’s Office of Climate & Environmental Justice published a new chart in the city’s annual greenhouse gas inventory that publicly tracks the carbon footprint created by household food consumption โ primarily generated by meat and dairy products.
The new analysis is a spin on the emissions data that comes standard with the annual inventory. It was made through a partnership with American Express, C40 Cities and EcoData lab.
Adams, an ardent evangelist of plant-based diets, announced the new tracker and policy at a Brooklyn culinary center run by Health + Hospitals, the cityโs public health care system.
โIt is easy to talk about emissions that are coming from vehicles and how it impacts our carbon footprint,โ Adams said. โBut we now have to talk about beef.โ
Adamsโs message appears to be that you will go vegan and you will like it. Because of the planet or something.
The city is encouraging New Yorkers to eat more beans, vegetables, fruits, and grains. Iโm not opposed to people eating those things. In fact, I probably should eat more vegetables and fruits myself.
But to pressure people to give up meat and dairy products is utterly insane. Personally, I tend to eat more pork and chicken than beef but I do love a good bacon cheeseburger and a steak from time to time. I definitely am not giving up animal products in order to replace them with processed vegetable and soy slurry which is what makes up most fake meat products these days.
There are actual downsides to a vegan diet and not just the fact that itโs not very tasty either. There are studies that show that vegans are more depressed than those of us who eat meat. Humans were meant to be omnivores, not just plant eaters.
Plus these days itโs not just meat production that has climate change cultists โconcerned.โ There was a video released this past weekend on Twitter that complained about the emissions of rice farming.
The modern environmental movement wants you miserable, if not dead. It wants you to have a lower quality of life in order to โsave the planet.โ Trying to force you to go vegan is very much a part of making your life miserable.
Mayor Adams is not completely out of touch with reality. Even he admits that New Yorkers โmight not be ready for this conversation.โ
