Here Are The Two Latest Examples Of Teacher Union Insanity

More and more parents across the country are pulling their kids out of the government school system. One of the biggest reasons why is how radical and out of touch the teachers unions are. These two instances will not help their cause.

In Oakland, California the teachers union has been on strike. Before they reached a deal with the school district, over 34,000 kids had little to no classroom instruction for 12 days.

But they have agreed to return to the classroom. What did they want? They received a pay raise, which is not a completely insane demand, and the creation of a “Black reparations task force”, which is completely insane.

From Fox News:

An Oakland school district teachers’ union strike that left over 34,000 students without instruction for nearly two weeks finally ended after the district agreed to pay teachers more and start a Black reparations task force.

Around 3,000 educators and staff from Oakland Unified School District returned to work Tuesday after striking a tentative deal with the district to raise teacher salaries, help homeless Black students and create the reparations task force.

The massive strike featured teachers, librarians, nurses, and other staff members walking out on their jobs May 4. Though the teachers were gone, the schools stayed opened for their 34,000 students, leaving them little to no instruction during the duration of the strike.

The left in California is on a kick about reparations and it should be no surprise the teachers unions are on board with that. What will happen is this task force will propose something outrageous and it will be rejected. It will leave everyone angry and the conditions for black students in Oakland will not improve.

At the end of the day, if Oakland teachers really wanted to help black students, they should’ve stayed in the classroom.

But the teachers union in Oakland are not the only ones who are insane. Their colleagues in Colorado just want to end capitalism.

Also from Fox News:

The Colorado Education Association (CEA) released a pointed resolution last month that explained the union’s rejection of the free-market economic system.

“CEA believes that capitalism requires exploitation of children, public schools, land, labor, and/or resources. Capitalism is in opposition to fully addressing systemic racism (the school to prison pipeline), climate change, patriarchy, (gender and LGBTQ disparities), education inequality, and income inequality,” the resolution said.

If the CEA believes capitalism is exploitative, they should check out the Soviet Union and every other socialist and communist society. Those societies were more destructive to the environment and bigoted than America.

At least one school district in Colorado is fighting back. The Woodland Park School Board passed a resolution in support of capitalism.

While more and more families are voting against the government school system with their feet and pulling their kids out, we can’t just abandon public education to the left. We have to fight back.

Taking control of school boards is a necessary first step in this. We also need to use the power of government to shape the curriculum on the state and local level. We need to ensure that we have classical and patriotic education in the classroom and not leftist dogma.
