Our Woke Department of Defense and its Latest Absurdity
The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) civilian workforce doesn’t have enough women and blacks, and this troubles the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO).
GAO staff, in a new report, said they want more diversity.
This, even though an efficient and well-oiled military depends upon merit — not demographics.

The military traditionally values structure and a chain of command if it is to function. Even the military’s civilian workforce has no room for political correctness.
Our military thinks it has a problem. The most telling part of the GAO’s report — no one knows whose job it is to solve it.
“DOD has been working to identify potential barriers to diversity, but little has changed over the last 10 years,” the GAO said.
“This may be because it is unclear which DOD office is responsible for overseeing such efforts.”
In their report, GAO staff members said they analyzed 10 years’ worth of Department of Defense data.
Overall, from fiscal year 2012 through fiscal year 2021, the proportion of women in the DOD’s civilian workforce decreased slightly, from 33.0 to 32.1 percent. The number for “historically disadvantaged groups” increased slightly, from 31.0 to 32.6 percent.
The DOD employs more than 700,000 federal civilians. That’s more than one-third of the total federal civilian workforce.
This is among only one of many of the federal bureaucracy’s efforts to make the military woke.
As reported in October, one DOD press release focused not on foreign adversaries or combat strategies but instead on, of all things, climate change. DOD officials blamed climate change for creating last year’s Hurricane Ian.
Last summer, DOD leadership asserted they needed taxpayer money to pay for $20 million in contingency preparedness for various climate risk scenarios. They also said they needed more than $800 million in science and technology investments. They included hybrid tactical vehicles.
Last November, U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX-21) and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) documented how President Joe Biden and members of his administration force woke ideology upon the military.
These practices, Roy and Rubio said at the time, threaten U.S. security.

The report, “Woke Warfighters,” revealed how Biden uses the military to promote Critical Race Theory, sex reassignment procedures, and drag queen story hours for children. Biden does this as he protects woke military leaders from accountability.
“Focusing on what is different among us, rather than that which unites us, only serves to foster division and discontent among service members,” Roy and Rubio’s report said.
