Why the Timing of Trump’s Political Divorce with Musk is Another Master Chess Move by the 47th President

The President has been a step ahead of the Democrats ever since he famously came down the escalator in 2015. Trump was talking about securing the border and illegal immigration before the left even addressed the issue. The former real estate mogul also discussed NAFTA’s many flaws at length while the Democrats were trying to pass more flawed trade agreements like the pathetic Trans Pacific Partnership accord. Trump also spoke on issues ranging from restoring fairness with NATO contributions to reforming the tax code long before any prominent Democrats at the national level even addressed these policy challenges.

Trump has always been a step ahead of today’s failing and pathetic Democratic party, and his recent political divorce from Elon Musk is another example of the President playing chess while his left-wing opponents are stuck on the checkers board. While Trump obviously will do what he thinks is right, he won’t let the Democrats or short-term politics dictate his thoughts or actions. The President is right to move away from the Tesla founder for multiple reasons. While Musk’s support of Trump and Republicans throughout the country, as well as his purchase of what was previously known as twitter, was very helpful to win the election, when the SpaceX founder started to criticize the President’s core economic philosophy by coming out against tariffs, Trump needed to keep the wealthiest man in the world from creating conflicts within his administration.

Trump will obviously have relationships with people as he wants. The President doesn’t make decisions based on politics, but the connection between his administration and the wealthiest man in the world would have been a clear challenge going into the midterm elections. Most middle and low income families are still in tough shape after 4 long years of failed left-wing policies by the Biden regime, if the Democrats had been able to gaslight and lie with their allies in the media about Trump’s close ties to Musk with the Tesla founder playing a major role in the government, that connection could have been damaging for the Republican brand. While Trump’s ties to Musk were a clear positive in the 2024 election, the appearance of the billionaire playing a major role in his administration at a time when the country is still struggling economically because of the prior failed Democratic policies would have presented more risks than rewards for the President.

Trump’s political divorce has flipped the script. The real reason Musk and the President had a falling out was because of Trump’s efforts to get rid of the tax rebate for electric vehicles and his support for tariffs. Elon Musk had already come out and called Peter Navarro, one of the architect of Trump’s roll out of reciprical tariffs, a moron, his real opposition to Trump’s policies had little to do with the recent Republican spending bill, which just led to the stock market hitting a record high. The President also made clear what his priorities were when he ran for office. Trump was never going to dramatically cut spending in his first year, with the economy still reeling from Biden’s regime’s incompetence.

Trump conflict with Musk has the appearance of a champion of the people taking on an elite, and his refusal to keep the rebate for electric vehicles again shows the President’s unwavering support for the middle and working class people in the auto industry who were being hurt significantly by the prior administration’s push to eliminate traditional gas cars. The President still welcomes Elon Musk and his support in the Republican party, but his separation from the Tesla founder has come at the right time and was again handled the right way as well. Trump will mend the relationship between him and Republicans with Musk eventually, but he has also used this political divorce to show again how adept he is at staying many steps ahead of today’s failing and pathetic Democratic party. The President continues to play chess against a left that is using the same failed playbook to try to smear Trump and the MAGA movement that hasn’t worked for years.
