The Sour Cream And Onion Potato Chip Caper

Herr’s makes good potato chips that include some unique flavors. Baby Back Rib, Old Bay, Dill Pickle, Creamy Ranch & Habanero, Montreal Steak, Hot Stromboli, Long Hots, and Tomato Pie, to name just a few.

This week, though, it was their relatively common Sour Cream and Onion flavor that made the news, not because of the chips themselves, but because of what was inside the bag.

Winnie Greco, an aide for New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams, was caught trying to slip a chip bag containing about $300 to Katie Honan, a reporter for “The City.” Konan initially thought that she was being offered a snack and declined to take the bag.

Eventually, Honan was forced to accept the bag and discovered that it contained money and not chips. Her publication, The City, called it a “failed payoff.” As for Greco, who gave the money to Honan, her explanations were all over the map, and none of them made sense, and all of them raised suspicions as to what exactly was going on.

Initially, Greco commented to The City, trying to explain away the bribe as an accident.

“I make a mistake. I’m so sorry. It’s a culture thing. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I feel so bad right now. I’m so sorry, honey. Can we forget about this? I try to be a good person. Please. Please. Please don’t do in the news nothing about me.”

Trying to explain it away, she added, “I just wanted to be her friend. I just wanted to have one good friend. It’s nothing.”

Sorry, you just handed a reporter money hidden inside a potato chip bag, so it definitely isn’t nothing, and don’t even try to sell us on it’s a cultural thing. You are standing outside a campaign office while working on a political re-election campaign. Your excuses don’t make any sense.

Attorney Steven Brill then tried to placate American citizens by doubling down on the ridiculous, this is “Chinese culture,” explanation.

“I can see how this looks strange, but I assure you that Winnie’s intent was purely innocent. In the Chinese culture, money is often given to others in a gesture of friendship and gratitude.”

Really, they pay off reporters out of friendship. Look, as a Democrat, we expect you to lie, but don’t insult our intelligence with your nonsensical explanations. Some of us were born at night, but no one who is reading this was born last night.

Because of the incident, the Adams campaign suspended Greco, and the City handed over information about the incident to the Department of Investigation.

Bottom of Form

Chinese American journalist Melissa Chan was outraged by the manner in which this was handled. She posted a link to The City’s article on the incident, calling Greco “a danger to the Asian American community.”

“Trying to pass envelopes of cash to reporters is typical in China, but for her to excuse it as ‘culture’ rather than the corrupt authoritarian CCP system smears us all.”

But wait, Greco is now singing a different tune. When confronted by the New York Post as she walked to her car yesterday (Friday), Greco, the now ex-adviser to Mayor Eric Adams, bizarrely claimed that the controversial packet was her “birthday gift” and then implied that the journalist (Katie Honan) whom she slipped the money to wanted to “hurt her.”

“I don’t have purpose, and I treat people everyone is the same, It’s angel, OK, but if somebody want to hurt me because I have love to my community, and I have love to the world, to my family, my people, and somebody try to hurt me, I cannot say nothing.”

Huh?

“Before, I didn’t know how much was in my envelope because it’s my birthday gift, that is Chinese culture. Somebody give me my birthday gift, I made big mistake, I’m so sorry. Talk to my lawyer.”

Oh, now it’s talk to her lawyer.

When pressed by the post to clarify what she meant by saying Honan wanted to “hurt her.” She replied, “Yes. Talk to my lawyer.”

Greco resigned in October from her post as Adams’ director of Asian community affairs — after she was targeted in multiple investigations — and has long been under scrutiny for ties to Chinese nationals. A source mentioned that Greco’s birthday is August 4, while Honan’s is in November.

Another pertinent question is, where did the money come from? Who stashed it in a chip bag? Was it Greco, or was she just the delivery person?

Her attorney, Steven Brill, who originally claimed it was a cultural misunderstanding, now goes mute on who supplied the cash, but claims it wasn’t nefarious.

“I can’t comment on the source of the money; it was meant as a kind gesture, not as anything nefarious.”

It’s obvious that Greco is lying through her CCP teeth. I have many questions, but here are my top three. How did Greco ever get into any of the positions that she has held? She is obviously dangerous and is trying to play coy by hiding behind her corrupt culture. Who planted the money? The money was meant to serve a purpose, so who planted it in the chip bag? Lastly, why was Honan targeted? Did they want favorable coverage, or did they want something covered up?

Greco has more questions to answer, and she should have plenty of time to answer them. She needs to be arrested and never be allowed to have anything to do with American politics again. In fact, if her actions are deportable, ship her out, but make sure they’re serving chips on the plane.
