Hegseth Blows Out The Candles On “Scouting America’s Woke Cake”
This is not the first column that I have written about the sickening story of what used to be called the “Boy Scouts of America.” This is a straight-up tale of how the left destroyed an organization for no other reason than they couldn’t stand the fact that there was a group that clearly separated boys from girls by promoting the masculine aspects of being a male.
The organization was founded in 1910 and, for decades, recognized the differences between young men and women. It provided an opportunity for boys, especially many from urban areas, to experience the outdoors with the camaraderie of other young men. When it was launched, Theodore Roosevelt called the Boy Scouts essential to America’s future. He served as the first and only Chief Scout Citizen, championing an organization that taught boys “patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred virtues.”
Then, in 2013, the organization started to accept homosexual boys and, in 2015, homosexual leaders. In 2018, the Cub Scouts, which had been the feeder program for the Boy Scouts, began accepting girls, and in 2019, the Boy Scouts followed suit. In 2019, the name was also changed from Boy Scouts of America to Scouts BSA.
Then last year, the group made the announcement:
“That it will rebrand to “Scouting America,” reflecting the organization’s ongoing commitment to welcoming every youth and family in America to experience the benefits of Scouting.”
Which is nothing more than the icing on the left’s woke cake. At the time, the announcement clarified that the change would go into effect on February 8, 2025, to celebrate the organization’s 115th anniversary.
To demonstrate the Scouts’ decline, consider that in 1972, membership peaked at just under 5 million. By 2018, membership had fallen to around 2 million, and last year, at the time of the final name change, it stood at around 1 million.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has seen enough. NPR obtained leaked documents that revealed Hegseth’s intention to send a memo to Congress explaining why the military can no longer support an organization that attacks “boy-friendly spaces.”
The memo explains that Scouting America has become “genderless” and is promoting “gender confusion” after allowing girls into what was always a male-only program.
Hegseth’s decision has real consequences. No more Pentagon medical teams at the National Jamboree, where 20,000 scouts gather in West Virginia, and no more Scout troops meeting at U.S. military installations anywhere in the world.
In the memo he wrote, “The organization once endorsed by President Theodore Roosevelt no longer supports the future of American boys.” The memo adds that the scouts have abandoned their mission to “cultivate masculine values.”
In a separate memo to Pentagon leaders, Hegseth wrote:
“Scouting America has undergone a significant transformation. It is no longer a meritocracy which holds its members accountable to meet high standards.”
Hegseth saw this coming years ago. In 2018, when he was at Fox News, he warned viewers that the Scouts were committing suicide.
“The Boy Scouts has been cratering itself for quite some time. This is an institution the left didn’t control. They didn’t want to improve it. They wanted to destroy it or dilute it into something that stood for nothing.”
The Boy Scouts taught millions of men essential lessons in leadership, service to others, personal integrity, and the value of looking someone in the eye and keeping one’s word.
Today, however, they are teaching children that biology is irrelevant, that boys and girls are interchangeable, and that the concept of male-only spaces is offensive.
All of this begs the question, why do the Girl Scouts still exist? These changes imply that the Girl Scouts have been and remain inferior to the Boy Scouts, and that the name change is an open invitation for everyone to join the same troop.
In 2019, the Girl Scouts were not pleased that girls could join the Boy Scouts. At that time, they issued this statement:
“The change does not change the position of Girl Scouts of the USA or our mission to serve girls, and girls only, and to foster their amazing leadership potential. We remain steadfast in our knowledge that Girl Scouts is the world’s single best leadership development program for girls.”
The Irony here is a foot thick. The only place the left wants boys to exert their masculinity is on girls’ sports teams. Boys had their own troops that didn’t interfere with the Girl Scouts, but that wasn’t good enough for the radicals on the left. They had to attack and weaken true masculine bonding by infiltrating the Boy Scouts with girls.
It seems that the left wants to push men and boys into the safe spaces of women and girls and to push women and girls into one of the few safe spaces of men and boys.
This isn’t hard to understand, America. The Scout programs were created for separate genders for a reason. Inclusivity does not apply to everything. Being unique and different is a good thing, and boys and girls are most definitely different.
