Why the Democrats Were Again Played for a Fool on Venezuela
The Democratic Party is devoid of leaders or ideas. While the left was once firmly unified behind Nancy Pelosi, a corrupt and disgusting but effective opposition leader, today’s Democrats have no effective message or leadership. Pelosi is old and retiring now, Barack Obama rarely speaks publicly, Bernie Sanders is also older and not seen in pubic much, and Joe Biden remains senile and irrelevant. The current Democratic leadership of Hakeem Jeffries in the House and Chuck Schumer in the Senate is an outright embarrassment; these individuals have put up no real or substantive resistance to Trump.
And the Tim Walz experiment in Minnesota isn’t doing very well, either.
This is why, surprisingly, today’s failing Democratic Party actually found an issue in the health care debate that they were scoring some points on with the American people. While Republicans are right on policy, Obamacare has been an almost complete failure that has caused health care costs to rise and the number of health providers to fall, the timing is not likely politically right for the conservative to try to remove the policies’ subsidies at this time when the middle class is still suffering from 4 year long years of failed left-wing policies under Biden. The Democrats actually sounded reasonable for 30 seconds when the party was talking about making health care more affordable for the American people over the last several weeks, even though the party, of course, has no plan or policy to achieve that goal.
This is why the way Jefferies and the Democrats responded to President Trump’s triumphant recent actions in Venezuela showed, again, that Trump is playing chess while the left is playing checkers. The 47th President played the Democrats like fools. While the left could have simply stated that while they strongly disagree with Trump on policy, Maduro was a vile and disgusting leader who the world is better off without in power, the New York congressman and his Democratic colleagues couldn’t help themselves. Instead of siding with the President on an obvious issue of national security and protecting America’s strategic interests, the left absurdly claimed that what Trump did was illegal and unconstitutional, with some individuals, such as Jeffries and Democratic Senator Schumer, claiming the President’s actions violated the War Powers Act.
The reality is that under article three of the Constitution, the President has wide powers to use military force for up to 60 days under the emergency war powers given to him in the Constitution. All Presidents, both Democrat and Republican, have at times evoked this authority. Former President Obama even brazenly conducted an all-out war in Libya without any congressional authorization, for well more than the time period Article two authorizes military force without congressional authorization. The Democrats, unsurprisingly, at the time led by Pelosi in the House, had no issue with Obama’s blatant violation of the Constitution.
Former President Maduro was corrupt, vile, and unpopular in his own country. Trump’s successful actions to rid the world of this dictator should have been a rare moment for bipartisanship from the left. Instead, Democrats, yet again, simply attacked the 47th President and showed how deranged and pathetic today’s Democratic Party has become. The left actually went on the offense for Maduro over siding with Trump, which would be surprising at any other time, but now. President Trump is in power for many reasons, one of them being that he’s simply outmaneuvered the Democrats repeatedly. That is exactly what happened here.
