Republicans Keep Punching Themselves in the Face

As the 2026 midterm elections approach, the actions of the Republican party continue to make less sense every day.

They have already been on a political suicide march since they took office in 2025 by allowing the Obamacare subsidies to expire without a replacement plan, failing to pass the Save America Act, and failing to fulfill their mass deportation promise. Incredibly, they recently outdid themselves.

Automatic Draft Registration

Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ve seen the recent headlines that all men between the ages of 18-25 are now automatically registered with Selective Service. This mandate is part of the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act.

Yeah, I know they were already required to voluntarily register, but how do you think automatic registration is being interpreted by mainstream America? In other words, independents and moderate Republicans decide elections, and they fear a draft for military service is coming.

As if to fan the flames of these concerns, administration officials have recently said the prospect of a military draft remains โ€œon the table.โ€

Secretary of War

For some reason that can only be attributed to bravado, President Trump signed an executive order in September 2025 to change the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War. Consequently, the Secretary of Defense is now known as the Secretary of War.

The question remains: why make these changes?

The Pentagon has operated under the Department of Defense moniker since 1940 for a reason. The word โ€œdefense” is self-explanatory. It suggests that violence is a last resort. We only respond when attacked to protect ourselves, our homeland, and our families. โ€œWarโ€ on the other hand, suggests aggressive first-strike action not limited solely to defense.

The name change was needlessly provocative.

The Iran War

Remember, the announcement that registration for the draft would now be automatic comes within the context of the explosive Iran war. The topic of whether Trump will dispatch American troops to Iran has been discussed relentlessly in the media since the war began. To add gasoline to the fire, the administration has said repeatedly that although they donโ€™t expect troops will be necessary, they would not rule out โ€œboots on the ground.โ€

Ostensibly, this is a strategy of ambiguity. Keep the enemy guessing. Thatโ€™s all fine and good unless youโ€™re scaring the crap out of the 18-25-year-old men in the country, who fear they might be trudging through Mideast sand in full battle gear while sporting an M4 next year.

Bear in mind that the woke leftist press is bombarding this demographic with daily messages designed to evoke fear that Trump is on the verge of starting another Vietnam. Perhaps the worst part is that young men in that age group were a burgeoning voting bloc that was cautiously but steadily moving into the MAGA camp.

You know who else doesnโ€™t like the vibes of all the saber-rattling coming from the White House? Vietnam and Iraq war vets who remember all too well what these quagmire wars cost the U.S. In its bald-faced, ugly truth, both of those wars accomplished nothing and cost tens of thousands of lives and hundreds of thousands of life-altering casualties.

Republicans Deliver a Right Cross to Their Own Faces

Honestly, I donโ€™t get the seemingly purposeful destruction Republicans, including President Trump to some extent, bring upon themselves. The prevailing national mood seems to be trending in the direction of believing Trump wants war, and the change of name of the Pentagon and the institution of automatic registration for the draft are doing nothing to soothe those fears.

I wonder if weโ€™re already too late in the 2026 election cycle to stop the momentum woke leftists have been building since they unleashed suicide martyrs in Minnesota, but this I can guarantee: If the war isnโ€™t ended by May, rising inflation alone will sink the Republicans in the midterms. Even ending the war might not be enough without an accompanying significant piece of legislation like the Save America Act and a recommitment to mass deportation.

I swear Republicans couldnโ€™t hit water if they fell out of a boat.
