The UN Needs To Stop Doing Their Bad Imitation Of The Three Wise Monkeys
In a show of outright disrespect and utter stupidity, the United Nations elected Iran as one of 34 vice presidents for the 2026 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference, which has sparked international outrage and objections from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and other countries. This role involves assisting in the management of the conference, which oversees compliance with nuclear weapons treaties, despite Iran’s own history of non-compliance.
The United States expressed strong opposition to the appointment, calling it “beyond shameful” and an embarrassment to the conference due to Tehran’s ongoing uranium enrichment nearing weapons-grade levels.
The appointment puts Iran, which the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported in 2025 had sufficient enriched uranium for ten nuclear weapons, in a leadership role at a conference aimed at preventing nuclear proliferation.
Curiously, just last year, this very committee found Iran to be in violation of the committee’s policies. So, you can file this asinine decision in the “You can’t make this sh*t up” filing cabinet, with a duplicate copy in the WTF cabinet.
For the Trump administration, the symbolism of this betrayal was both immediate and explosive.
Christopher Yeaw, U.S. assistant secretary for arms control and nonproliferation, told delegates: “Rather than choosing to use this review conference to defend the integrity of the NPT and call Iran to account, we instead elect Iran a vice president. It is beyond shameful and an embarrassment to the credibility of this conference.”
The UAE and Australia publicly supported the American objection, while Britain, France, and Germany also expressed concern, forming a broader coalition than in previous U.N. disputes where the U.S. often stood largely alone in challenging Iran’s procedural elevation.
Supported the American objection? Britain, France, and Germany expressed concern?
We are talking about Iran, right?
Here’s what galls me about this. If the UN is making these types of decisions, why is the United States still involved? That aside, every single one of these countries that “supported” our decision, or “expressed concern,” will be the first in line looking for America’s help.
This is a problem that Democrats want to ignore, but it is so blatantly one-sided and wrong that it can’t continue. Although it’s been generally accepted as fact, the United States can no longer be the world’s protector without any type of reciprocation.
The truth is that many of these countries are nothing but users, and now that they are asked to accept the slightest bit of responsibility, monetary or otherwise, they whine, cry, tuck their tails, and run.
One problem, this isn’t a political game. This is about allowing a renegade country to enter a weight class they have no reason to even sniff. No matter what Iran says publicly, it will never be the truth, and this UN decision proves that they are not only incompetent but also totally obsolete and dangerous.
