Sydney Sweeney And The Puritanical Liberals

I mentioned that things were different before 9/11 and along comes Sydney Sweeney to illustrate the reality of that statement.

Sweeney did an ad – nude but covered in strategic ways – for a sports betting enterprise and people are losing their minds.

Apparently, Sweeney is sexualizing female atheletes and is single handedly destroying women’s sports.

Not men masquerading as women, not a basketball league filled with minority lesbians who routinely beat the crap out of the league’s first real star who happens to be straight and white, not even the demands that women get paid the same as men when their leagues don’t draw the same revenue, no none of that.

It’s Sydney.

Jesse Kelly, the podcaster, pundit and radio host, tweeted yesterday that if this was the 80’s or 90’s, Sweeney would be one of literally hundreds of attractive women pitching for everything from cars to soft drinks to designer jeans – and nobody would be accusing her of murdering women’s sports or any of those things.

She would just be one of the crowd, which sort of supports my point that what was normal then isn’t normal now and it isn’t because attractive women were more plentiful then than now, it is because society tried to change the definition of beauty for the sake of “equity” and it didn’t work.

Sweeney is bringing sexy back and with it, reality.

I laughed out loud last night when ESPN was attacking her, apparently during a bout of amnesia, when they have a magazine that glorified the nude bodies of female sportswomen in a “body issue.”

What she is destroying isn’t women’s sports, she is destroying the postmodernist idea that to notice beauty anywhere is wrong because some people are not beautiful and it hurts their feelings – and feelings are more important than reality.

It is wild think about how such ideological puritanical libertinism can even exist, but massive contradiction is how we roll these days.

Thank goodness Sydney is helping bring this Harrison Bergeron era to an end.
