The Corporate Media’s Favorite Form Of Revenge Against Private Citizens
The corporate media went on the warpath last week against the holdout lone juror in the Lindsay Clancy trial and decided to air his dirty laundry for the public to behold.
This brings to mind a story I recall from 1993. The San Diego Union-Tribune savaged a man named Lorne Fleming for daring — during a televised town hall forum — to ask then-President Bill Clinton a challenging question.
As The Tampa Bay Times wrote that year, Fleming, then a self-employed businessman, asked Clinton the following: “San Diegans just don’t have any more money to contribute to the coffers of government. My question is, can you name one country that has ever taxed and spent itself back into prosperity?”
This was 1993, three years before FOX News. At the time, no one in the leftist corporate media would dare ask Clinton or any other Democrat a challenging question like that. And, in candor, the corporate media would never dare ask Clinton or any other Democrat a challenging question period.

Clinton said he couldn’t answer the man’s question.
“Videotapes of the question and Clinton’s response (‘I can’t, but you can’t fairly characterize my program like that’) were shown that night on local and national newscasts, and conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh dubbed the self-employed equipment maintenance manager as his ‘poster boy,’” according to one news account later that year.
The corporate media didn’t like Fleming’s question one bit and decided to do a full-blown investigation into the man’s personal life.
One of Fleming’s five ex-wives told The Union-Tribune that her former husband failed to pay his taxes. Fleming admitted he’d had tax troubles in the past but they were long since settled.
Comparing Fleming with the sole holdout juror may not seem just or in the right context, but I see an analogy here.
Rush said that man’s personal life didn’t matter in the context of the question. As Rush put it, “Charles Manson could have asked that question. It was still a good question.”
Heck, even Limbaugh had personal failings. He was married four times. He had a prescription drug problem following back surgery that turned into an addiction. Limbaugh’s dirty laundry was published not because it was newsworthy but because he had the wrong political opinions, per the corporate media. And none of Limbaugh’s personal problems diminshed his brilliant political and social commentary. But to hear the corporate media tell it, it did.

And, quite frankly, the only reason the media did a deep dive into this holdout Clancy juror was because he voted the wrong way (according to the corporate media). If the man had simply gone along with the other jurors then we never would have known any of this stuff about his personal life. But digging that up was the corporate media’s act of revenge.
Let’s do a deep dive into some of these other jurors and their dirty laundry, shall we? Maybe one is an alcoholic or is addicted to prescription drugs. Maybe another one also has restraining orders? Maybe another one cheated on a test in college and got expelled? Maybe another tore the Do Not Remove tag off his or her couch?
If we’re going to try to intimidate and bully the lone holdout juror then it’s only fair that our media do the same to the other jurors.
Right?
