Abbott: Biden Should Send Texas ‘Thank-You Card Rather Than A Lawsuit’ For Border Enforcement

“Crazy” and “deadly” were terms the Governor of Texas used this afternoon to describe the situation on the Texas-Mexico border.

While Texas has seized enough Fentanyl to kill every person in the U.S., illegal immigrants are dying in the back of non-air-conditioned semi-trucks, and human traffickers attempt to exploit the vulnerable, Gov. Greg Abbott expressed his befuddlement as to why the Joe Biden Administration is not supporting the Lone Star State in some practical (and non-federally funded) efforts to curtail the flow of undocumented persons into the country.

“They should be sending us a thank-you note rather than a lawsuit,” Abbott said this afternoon on “The Clay and Buck Show,” a successor to the long-running Rush Limbaugh Show. “… Texas is, for the first time in the history of the country, is denying entry to people who are coming into this country illegally” yet the Biden Administration is doing nothing.

Abbott noted the presidential administration has sued Texas over the placement of razor wire and floating buoys with underwater nets along small portions of the Rio Grande near the city of Eagle Pass. “See you in court” has been Abbott’s frequent response to these legal challenges, which some say bring international treaties into question.

Though continuing to refer to the illegal immigrants by the softer term “migrants,” Abbott said it will take a firm hand while working with the status quo to immediately reduce the number of unauthorized border crossings. He expressed hope that a Republican president after 2024 would halt the uptick in illegal immigration by “simply by enforcing immigration laws already on the books.”

Abbott referenced Biden’s remarks during the 2020 presidential debates that he supports an open border policy. This remains the administration’s true immigration policy, the governor said, noting the lifting of Title 42 with no plan to make up for the resultant rise in illegal crossings.

There is some good news, however: An “awakening” among sanctuary city mayors. “When they’re being put to the test they’re complaining about it,” Abbott said. Hosts Buck Sexton and Clay Travis pointed out the recent “our cup hath runneth over” comment by New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

“Quite literally I laughed out loud โ€ฆ they have two or three weeks’ worth of migrants that we have in Texas, and they say they can’t handle it,” Abbott quipped, referencing the city’s population of 8.5 million.

The federal lawsuit against Texas, filed in an Austin federal court, alleges the barrier was installed without authorization from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as well that is obstructs navigation and poses environmental concerns.

โ€œPresident Bidenโ€™s border enforcement plan has led to the lowest levels of unlawful border crossings in over two years,” a White House spokesman said in a written statement, taking credit for Abbott’s sending of hundreds of state troopers and National Guard and State Guard troops to the border. “Governor Abbottโ€™s dangerous and unlawful actions are undermining that effective plan, making it hard for the men and women of Border Patrol to do their jobs of securing the border, and putting migrants and border agents in danger.โ€

Abbott defended his decision to do so as the โ€œcommander-in-chief” of the Texas militia. โ€œIt has been under your watch that migrants have suffered an unprecedented crisis of inhumanity,โ€ Abbott said in the letter to the White House. โ€œIf you truly care about human life, you must begin enforcing federal immigration laws.โ€

As for Mexico’s response? Leftist President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Monday, according to Reuters, urged Mexican-Americans living in Texas not to vote for Abbott or any other Texas Republicans. Mexico promised a diplomatic mission to inspect the buoys.
