FAA’s Push For Diversity Replaces Competence

If you need something else to worry about, consider what is happening with the FAA. The airline industry is being pushed to immerse itself in everything DEI. The results of this push could be disastrous, because diversity does not equal competence.

On January 5th, Alaska Airlines flight 1282 suffered an inflight door failure. The plane was piloted by DEI female pilots. The pilots ignored three low cabin pressure warnings. After the door blowout occurred, they ignored the decompression and continued to increase altitude to over 16,000 feet for at least one minute. The female pilots then did not deactivate the auto pilot in order to lower the plane to a comfortable altitude, in fact they never deactivated the autopilot. Instead the ordered the autopilot to begin slow decent and allowed it to be employed through the landing procedure. Once on the ground, they violated FAA safety regulations, by leaving the cockpit voice recorder on, resulting in pertinent information to being erased.

Naturally, the MSM, which is totally controlled by radicals on the left, is not reporting on this. Not unlike their defense of critical race theory, and ESG, their feigned ignorance of the dangers of DEI are not really believable. Airline pilots must be hired for their competence and experience and not to increase quota numbers so an industry appears to be more diverse. If any minority is the most qualified, they should be hired, but that isn’t what DEI is about. DEI is all about hiring based on race or sex, competence is not part of the true equation. Obviously in an industry like the airlines, this goes beyond fairness and moral justice, this can be extremely dangerous.

Another instance that took place last July 29th has raised the interest of Ashley St. Clair, a conservative activist looking for the truth. She believes that the incident which involved an exceptionally hard landing may be attributable to United Airlines DEI, agenda.

The flight that involved a Boeing 767-300ER, took off from Newark Liberty International Airport on its way to the George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston. The flight was uneventful, then “According to the National Transportation Safety Board’s preliminary report, while landing at IAH, the First Officer was flying and, despite best efforts to keep the nose wheel from bouncing, the nose wheel made contact with abnormal force,” as reported by Simple Flying, an aviation news source.

“The airplane appeared to bounce, and he reacted by pulling aft on the control yoke, in an effort to keep the nose wheel from impacting the runway a second time. Subsequently, the speed brakes deployed, and the auto brakes engaged which resulted in a second bounce of the nose wheel.”

Airplanes are not supposed to be bouncing and these bounces caused significant damage to the airplane. So, the obvious question is. What happened?”

According to a posting January 5th on X, St. Clair claims that the pilot involved was a DEI hire who “failed multiple trainings” but was hired anyway because he or she had checked the right identity boxes. In her posts on X, she asked:

“Was the co-pilot a former flight attendant who was FIRED and then rehired through United’s DEI program despite being on a list to not return to United?”

She continued, “Am I correct that this individual failed multiple trainings including simulator training? Am I also correct that United has covered up this DEI disaster and many others?”

Good questions, … that someone needs to answer.

As part of the FAA’s excursion into DEI madness, they are actively recruiting people that have “severe intellectual” disabilities, psychiatric problems and other mental and physical conditions under a diversity and inclusion hiring initiative spelled out on the agency’s website.

“Targeted disabilities are those disabilities that the Federal government, as a matter of policy, has identified for special emphasis in recruitment and hiring,” the FAA’s website states. “They include hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism.”

Huh? Does this enhance the safety of the airlines? Does anyone feel safer? Not Me!

The website goes on to say that people with “severe” mental and physical disabilities are the most under-represented segment of the federal workforce. Yes, and there is a reason for that. It isn’t cruel to say that some disabilities greatly inhibit some people from performing certain duties. That is just reality, and honesty. Something the left struggles with.

The FAA says:

“Because diversity is so critical, FAA actively supports and engages in a variety of associations, programs, coalitions and initiatives to support and accommodate employees from diverse communities and backgrounds. Our people are our strength, and we take great care in investing in and valuing them as such.”

Fox News asked an FAA spokesperson what roles people with disabilities would play and of course, the answer was vague. The agency thoroughly seeks and vets qualified candidates “from as many sources as possible” for a range of positions.

“The FAA employs tens of thousands of people for a wide range of positions, from administrative roles to oversight and execution of critical safety functions. Like many large employers, the agency proactively seeks qualified candidates from as many sources as possible, all of whom must meet rigorous qualifications that of course will vary by position.”

Dr. Stanley Goldfarb is the Chairman of Do No Harm. A group of health care professionals, medical students and policymakers working to “protect health care from a radical, divisive, and discriminatory ideology.” In an interview with Fox News, he compared the airline industry to the medical field in that their goal is to protect the public from harm.

“The aviation industry has a responsibility for traveler safety just as the health care industry has a responsibility for patient safety. These responsibilities outweigh other factors when considering applicants to work in those fields. People with disabilities who can successfully complete the task should never face discrimination.”

“Unfortunately, identity politics is creating opportunities for so-called oppressed groups by lowering standards for entry into those fields and thereby endangering the safety of those which it’s designed to serve. Some endeavors simply do not lend themselves to identity politics.”

In 2022, Boeing corporate filings with the SEC reveal that the annual bonus plan to reward CEO and executives for increasing profit for shareholders and prioritizing safety was changed to reward them if they hit DEI targets.

Then at Delta, a memo to employees instructed them to write black and brown in capitals and White in lower case.

The FAA is empowering blatant racism, and the individual airlines are following in lockstep. This isn’t about diversity, this is about division and in the process the American public is being placed in danger.

You have to ask yourself; how many will need to perish to satisfy the ideals of the left. They are jeopardizing a safety-first industry by applying pressure to reach unrealistic goals based on discriminatory practices.

Flying the friendly skies is a thing of the past. The woke FAA has changed that to something much bleaker.
